Emmerdale’s Brenda’s exit storyline ‘exposed’ after 16 years – and it’s not a happy ending

Emmerdale’s Brenda Walker, played by actress Lesley Dunlop, could be on the brink of a heart-wrenching exit, as reports suggest that Dunlop has bid farewell to the soap.

Since 2008, Lesley has been a constant presence on the ITV soap, portraying the much-loved character Brenda. It’s safe to say she’s had her fair share of dramatic storylines, including one where Brenda triumphed over a brain tumour.

She has also remained steadfastly by Eric Pollard’s (Chris Chittell) side during his battle with Parkinson’s disease. Moreover, last New Year’s Day saw Brenda’s surrogate son Heath Hope ((Sebastian Dowling) tragically die in a car accident, causing shockwaves throughout the village.

Interestingly, off-camera, Lesley is romantically involved with Chris Chittell, who plays her on-screen love interest Eric. The duo first crossed paths back in 2008 when she joined the cast.

Brenda is a beloved character on the saop

However, recent reports have indicated that Lesley has exited the soap. This alleged departure follows rumours that her co-star Roxy Shahidi, who portrays Leyla Harding, is also planning to leave, reports Leeds Live.

“There have been so many exits recently and the talk is of more. With people like Lesley and Roxy potentially in the mix, nobody feels safe,” an insider revealed to The Mirror.

They further commented: “The show has grown a lot bigger in recent years but soaps are expensive to make. It’s inevitable saving money means losing people but it’s a huge shame all the same for those involved, their friends and colleagues.”

Fans fear a death twist is in store

Following reports of Lesley’s departure from the soap, fans are convinced that Brenda won’t have a happy ending. They’ve even predicted a shocking death twist. One fan speculated on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page about Lesley’s rumoured exit: “Surely it means they will be killing her off as she wouldn’t leave Eric unless he’s dying so she leaves?”

Another viewer commented: “She’s hardly been in it this year. I’ve got a feeling Brenda will die.” A third chimed in: “Probably! I love Brenda but she’s not had many storyline so can’t blame her for wanting to leave.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
