Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt has said he is prioritising his mental health and turning down acting work in order to look after himself and bond with wife Katy
One of Coronation Street’s most famous star has been turning down acting work for a “side hustle”.
Adam Rickitt, 46, is best known for playing Nick Tilsley on Coronation Street from 1997 to 1999 and also from 2002 to 2004. His character Nick was the son of legendary stalwart Gail Platt, who is set to leave Weatherfield behind in a gripping storyline at the end of the year.
In 2017, he bagged a role as Kyle Kelly in Hollyoaks before his character’s tragic death and last year appeared in Doctors. But recently, the former ITV star has slowed down and has now admitted he is happy to take time away from the spotlight.

Soap star Adam currently owns well-known gin bar Dexter and Jones in the sleepy town of Knutsford in Cheshire. The bar recently marked its fifth anniversary, with things only getting better for the business since.
The bar was bought by Adam and wife Katy in 2019 as a “passion project”, but now the business is doing so well, Adam is now refusing to work as an actor due to his commitments to the bar, working there six days a week.
Speaking to the Knutsford Guardian, Adam said: “I love acting. I’m always going to act but I was sick of doing rubbish jobs I didn’t want to do.
“It was the same thing for Katy,” he added. “She loved doing the news but she didn’t like how tired it made her when she was doing it 24/7.
“So our shared dream was to take over Dexter & Jones and to find that balance.” Since then, the bar has gone from strength to strength, though the pair did have to shut the bar down temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Heartthrob Adam has tried his hand at a number of different jobs, including singing and politics – releasing an album in 1999, fraught with naughty tunes and clips. But the lack of commercial success for the album meant he was dropped after just one release.
He also dabbled in the political arena when he joined the Conservative Party in 2005, managing to become a prospective parliamentary candidate. However, due to him being unable to find a seat to stand in, this never materialised.
Similarly, wife Katy has tried her hand in acting – albeit in small roles. Good Morning Britain reporter Katy scored a minor role in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks interviewing kids as they opened their A-Level results.
Adam and Katy have been loved up ever since they tied the knot in 2014 in a lavish ceremony. However, their chances of having children are particularly low after Adam was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis – an autoimmune disease which has left him infertile.
