Fred Sirieix’s trick to keeping spice alive in 10-year romance with ‘mystery’ partner

EXCLUSIVE: First Dates icon Fred Sirieix has opened up about how he keeps the fire burning in his 10-year relationship with his partner Fruitcake this Valentine’s Day

First Dates legend Fred Sirieix has opened up about how he maintains the spice in his relationship with his mystery partner Fruitcake.

Former I’m A Celeb campmate Fred first announced his engagement in March 2020, but the pair have now been together for the past decade after meeting on the streets of Peckham. Fruitcake has appeared alongside Fred in Celebrity Gogglebox, but decides to keep her real name and occupation under wraps.

As Valentine’s Day is in full swing, we spoke to Fred about how he keeps the spark and spice alive during his decade-long romance as he teamed up with Knorr on their new campaign.

Fred shared: “I think having clear communication and shared interests allows us to keep the spice in our relationship, you’re both a team and supporting each other, rather than being against each other. So I definitely think having that teamwork and shared interest within the relationship is the key to keeping that spice alive.”

The TV star also offered advice to other couples and highlighted the impact the campaign can have on the nation’s lovers – as it appears the secret recipe to long-lasting love could be in the kitchen.

“They say couples who cook together stay together! Working on a dish with your loved one is very intimate and provides a good opportunity to get creative with your partner. In fact, Knorr’s research reveals half (50%) of UK adults enjoy cooking with a partner, over two-thirds of these being younger people (67%).

“With the top reasons people enjoy cooking with a partner is due to being able to work together as a team (45%), bonding over a shared and common interest (34%), showing thoughtfulness and effort (32%), and the intimacy it creates (32%).

“I think ultimately, actively engaging with your partner will make for a great Valentine’s Day. Knorr’s recent research reveals that up a third of those celebrating Valentine’s Day are looking to stay inside, so I think a great way to spice this up would be having a cook off with your partner. This helps build more intimacy within couples, rather than the day being more static and planned.”

When asked about his romantic plans and his dream February 14th, Fred opened up about the most dreamy way he could think about sharing the day with Fruitcake. The TV star explained: “I think the ultimate dream would be similar to my previous answer: spending time with the one you love the most. Date nights are about connecting with loved ones – life is so busy, it’s precious to get one-on-one time over an evening meal. I like to do phone-free meals and focus on the company I’m with. It’s good to get away from the screen when you can and use this time as a chance to properly reconnect.”

Knorr and brand ambassador, Fred Sirieix, have launched an exclusive ‘Knorrplay’ ‘aphrodisiac’ stock pot this Valentine’s Day – challenging the UK to experience the effect of its secret ingredients. The secret spice? Cooking together!
