The cast of ‘Conclave’ shared a message for Pope Francis at the SAG Awards as the ailing pontiff remains in a critical condition and fights for his life in hospital

The cast gave a touching ten word tribute to the pope

As Conclave racks up honours this awards season, the real pope has been hospitalised and is fighting for his life following a long asthmatic respiratory crisis and kidney issues.

At the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, stars of the movie, that throws the spotlight on the secretive Papal Conclave where Catholic Cardinals meet at the Vatican to pick a new pope, paid tribute to the ailing pontiff.

Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, John Lithgow and Sergio Castellitto stood together as they addressed the cameras.

Rossellini began the statement, saying: “First of all, we would like to wish Pope Francis a quick recovery.”

She then continues to speak about the movie: “Conclave is the secret meeting where the new pope is elected and this is what this film is about. It all happens behind the secret world of the Vatican.”

Fiennes continued: “A papal election turns into a battleground for competing agendas and egos, leaving no candidate safe from inquiry.”

The audience applauded as Isabella’s colleagues showed their agreement.

It was a big night for the movie as they swept away with the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, leaving rivals like Wicked, Emilia Perez, A Complete Unknown, and Anora in their holy dust.

The Pope has now suffering from kidney issues and remains in critical condition. In a new update from the Vatican, it appears that Pope Francis now has kidney issues as well as pneumonia.

A Vatican spokesman s aid: “The condition of the Holy Father remains critical, but since yesterday evening, he has not experienced any further respiratory crises. He received two units of concentrated red blood cells with benefit, and his hemoglobin levels have risen.

“The thrombocytopenia remains stable; however, some blood tests show early, mild renal insufficiency, which is currently under control. High-flow oxygen therapy continues through nasal cannulas.

“The Holy Father remains alert and well-oriented. The complexity of the clinical situation and the necessary time for the pharmacological treatments to show results require that the prognosis remain reserved.”
