Doc Fartin! – Men Behaving Badly’s Martin Clunes got pooed on by a dolphin, the TV star revealed – ‘Not a lot of people can say they have done that,’ he said
Men Behaving Badly’s Martin Clunes once went swimming with dolphins – and one pooed in his face.
The actor, who lives on a farm and is a keen animal lover, travelled to Western Australia to film a piece for the tourist board. They wanted him to help promote activities for holidaymakers to enjoy.
Clunes took part in one where tourists could swim in the sea with wild dolphins and meet them up close. The TV star had to be hooked up to an underwater expert who propelled them along the waters with a portable motor.
However, he got a nasty shock during his trip.
He said: “I was in Western Australia and I did a thing for the tourist board there and I went out to see wild dolphins. This guy has one of those motors that they swim through the water with and he whizzes you along and the dolphins come up as they are very curious.
“So I was tagging along and one of them sh*t in my face! This big cloud came at me. Not a lot of people can say they have done that.”
Clunes is currently going around the country promoting his latest book called Meetings With Remarkable Animals.
Asked what his favourite memory from his time on Men Behaving Badly was, he laughed: “The fact that the team were really, really good and we were always in the bar by 9pm. Nobody else did that but we did it frequently.
“The scripts were fantastic and we were the best of friends too. So why hang around?”
Clunes is no stranger to a bit of travel. In 2009, he presented Martin Clunes: Islands of Britain, which was followed by Martin Clunes: Islands of Australia in 2016 and Martin Clunes: Islands of America in 2019. But between 2022 and 2024, he released series one and two of Martin Clunes: Islands of the Pacific, which was delayed by the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic.
He said he copes with long haul flights with “sleeping pills, a huge glass of whisky and travelling up the front as well”.
He said: “That’s the real secret. Everyone’s really nice to you. And then you get pyjamas on, go to bed and wake up in another country. Yeah, I couldn’t do it. But I did four trips back and forth to Australia in one year.
“The worst of it is actually when we came back from Palau in Micronesia. That was a 51-hour journey, and I was crippled by the end, because I was sleeping and stuck in one position for so long. And we had to change in South Korea. It was quite punishing. But this was not the case for the Atlantic.”
