ITV star Sammy Root has opened up about his time as a Love Island bombshell
Love Island star Sammy Root has revealed villa secrets from his bombshell days. Sammy, who nabbed the Love Island title and a cool £50k with Jess Harding in 2023, entered the villa as a bombshell in week one, charming both Jess and the nation.
ITV fans will remember Sammy’s return in Love Island: All Stars this past January. He didn’t bag the top spot but did strike up a sweet romance with Elma Pazar, whom he gushed to OK! about, calling her “the loveliest girl ever.”
Now, Sammy’s dishing out a big hint about his pre-villa prep, reports OK!
In an exclusive interview with OK!’s Screen Time team, he revealed that latecomers like him are whisked off to Majorca at the start of the show, only to hang tight in separate villas.
“Both times I flew out right at the beginning and you’re just chilling in a holding villa until you’re called up,” he revealed.
These bombshells are kept away from the main cast and are clueless about who they’ll meet inside. Even though they’re kept in the dark about the islander antics, sometimes the newbies get a sneak peek at the unfolding drama.
Sammy divulged: “Sometimes they’ll offer you to watch an episode, so you can decide who you’re leaning towards.”

During his second go-round on the series, Sammy took them up on the offer, but it didn’t sway his partner-picking strategy.
Explaining his scepticism about choosing a partner based on the show, he admitted: “I didn’t want to choose someone based on what I’d seen on Love Island because there’s so much you don’t actually see. So I would have rather gone in and decided for myself based on meeting people.”
The celeb also confessed that he already had a soft spot for his current girlfriend, revealing: “Also, I already knew that I fancied Elma, so it was quite an easy decision for me.”
Despite constant whispers of a split, the couple remains solid as a rock. Fans often stir up breakup rumours, sometimes simply because Elma posts solo snaps.
While wedding bells aren’t ringing just yet, Sammy has confirmed that things are moving in the right direction with Elma.
“I think me and Elms are just in our own little world, taking things day by day,” he wrapped up.
Since waving goodbye to the ITV series, the former Love Island champ has dived into the world of watches, running his own timepiece raffle business, The Watch Draw.
