Overdue VHS Tape of 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' Prompts Arrest Warrant

The charge was related to a “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” tape that had been rented from a video store in Norman, Okla. Prosecutors dismissed the case on Wednesday. They once dotted shopping plazas in America with ubiquity, beckoning binge watchers with shelves of VHS cassettes, microwave popcorn and boxes of candy — and a reminder to “Be Kind, Rewind.”Video rental stores, pushed closer to the brink of extinction by streaming services like Netflix and changing technology, may be a thing of the past but an overdue rental became an issue of the present for a Texas woman. The woman, who was identified in court records as Caron Scarborough Davis, recently learned that there was a 21-year-old outstanding warrant for her arrest in Oklahoma. Her offense?Prosecutors said that Ms. Davis had failed to return a copy of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” a television sitcom that aired from 1996 to 2003. She rented the tape of episodes from a video store in Norman, Okla., in 1999, according to court documents.Court papers valued the unreturned tape of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” episodes at $58.59.Randy Holmes/Walt Disney Television, via Getty ImagesShe was charged with embezzlement of rented property, and a warrant was issued for her arrest in March 2000. The store where she rented the tape, Movie Place, closed in 2008, according to KOKH Fox 25 in Oklahoma. In a charging document, prosecutors said that Ms. Davis “did willfully, unlawfully and feloniously embezzle a certain One (1) Videocassette Tape, Sabrina the Teenage Witch of the value of $58.59.”Ms. Davis, 52, discovered the outstanding warrant for her arrest after she got married and tried to change her name on her driver’s license, KOKH reported on Thursday.“I thought I was going to have a heart attack,” she said.Ms. Davis said motor vehicle officials referred her to the district attorney’s office for Cleveland County, Okla., where a woman explained the charge against her.“She told me it was over the VHS tape and I had to make her repeat it because I thought, ‘This is insane,’” Ms. Davis said. “This girl is kidding me, right? She wasn’t kidding.”Ms. Davis could not be immediately reached on Sunday. On April 21, prosecutors dropped the embezzlement charge against Ms. Davis in consideration of the “best interest of justice,” according to court documents. KOKH Fox 25 had contacted prosecutors the previous day about the charge.Greg Mashburn, the district attorney for Cleveland, Garvin and McClain Counties in Oklahoma, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday, nor did Tim D. Kuykendall, who was the district attorney when the warrant was issued.Sandi Harding, the general manager of the world’s last Blockbuster video store, in Bend, Ore., said in an interview on Sunday that bringing criminal charges for an unreturned movie seemed overly punitive.“We’ve definitely not sent out a warrant for anybody for that,” she said. “That’s a little a bit crazy to me.”Blockbuster assesses daily late fees of 49 to 99 cents for overdue videos up to 10 days. After that, the store charges customers up to $19.99 to replace one of its DVDs or Blu-ray discs, Ms. Harding said.In some cases, the store, which does not rent VHS cassettes, will refer past-due accounts for collection, she said.“We would never charge someone $100 for a copy of ‘Scooby-Doo’ that they never returned,” she said.It was not immediately clear who owned the now-shuttered video store where Ms. Davis rented the tape or whether she owed any late fees. She told KOKH Fox 25 that she had no recollection of renting the video, saying that she lived with a man at the time who had two young daughters.“I’m thinking he went and got it and didn’t take it back or something,” she said. “I have never watched that show in my entire life — just not my cup of tea.” More

Bobby Brown: 'The Masked Singer' Helps Me Cope With the Loss of My Children

    FOX

The New Edition singer finds competing on the televised singing contest ‘theraputic’ following the tragic deaths of his daughter Bobbi Kristina and son Bobby Jr.

    Apr 25, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Bobby Brown found starring on “The Masked Singer” “theraputic” after suffering the loss of two of his children in recent years.

The New Edition star was revealed to be The Crab on Wednesday’s (21Apr21) installment of the celebrity singing contest and he admitted the show gave him some much-needed “fun” at a time when the world is battling coronavirus and he is still coming to terms with the loss of two of his children, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died in July 2015 aged 22 and 28-year-old Bobby Jr., who passed away last November.

He told Entertainment Tonight, “It was something that was different. Something out of the box, you know? Something I could just go out and have fun with.”

“Especially during these times, I think we need a little bit of laughter and a little bit of fun happening around the world.”

“It was so much fun. I recommend it for any entertainer out there to experience this at least once in their lifetime.”

In his clues on the show, Bobby talked about the trauma and tragedy he’s experienced through his life but he found being on the stage as The Crab cathartic.

He said, “It keeps me going, you know? I’m a performer. I love performing on stage. I can’t wait to get back at it. This was definitely therapeutic for me.”

The 52-year-old singer and wife Alicia Etheredge have watched every episode of the show with their young children, Cassius, 11, Bodhi, five, and four-year-old Hendrix, and despite his efforts to put them off the scent, they knew he was the star behind the crustacean costume.

He said, “I couldn’t tell them at all so I had to tell a little fib to my kids but they guessed it from right off the bat because we sing so much around the house and my kids know my tones so they guessed right off the bat that it was me.”

“I kept having to say, ‘No, it’s not daddy! How could it be daddy? Daddy’s right here with you. I can’t be there and here at the same time.'”

Richard Lewis 'So Grateful' to Be Invited Back to 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' After Surgeries

    Twitter

The 73-year-old comedian thanks Larry David for inviting him back to the HBO hit comedy series after being well enough following recovery from surgeries.

    Apr 25, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actor Richard Lewis is “so grateful” to return to hit comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” after recovering enough from a series of surgeries to film an appearance.

The veteran star has portrayed a semi-autobiographical version of himself on Larry David’s show since its inception in 2000 but, in January (21), Lewis claimed he was not well enough to reprise the role for the upcoming season 11.

Sharing the news with fans on Twitter at the time, he wrote, “What a ride, LD! I love you, buddy. Tragically, these past 18 months I’ve endured a back and two shoulder surgeries and not able to be in #CurbYourEnthusiasm for season 11. I’ll be watching… @HBO.”

However, the 73 year old has since been able to make a brief return to the franchise, thanks to an invite from David.

Posting a photo of himself from the set of the TV hit, Lewis wrote, “Great news for me! Although I’m still recovering from three surgeries and missing Season 11 of Curb, LD called me and asked if there was any chance if I felt strong enough to do one episode!”

“I am and here I’m on the set to shoot it. I’m so grateful.”

And returning to work, even just for the one episode instead of his originally planned six, has given Lewis a big confidence boost.

“It was maybe the best I’ve ever been in the 11 seasons,” he told Variety of his performance after day one. “And I know this because I made Larry crack up at least 15 or 20 times during this one scene.”

Lewis added, “When I walked in and they applauded, I felt like a million bucks. Larry doesn’t like to hug, and he hugged me and told me how happy he was after we shot our scene.”

“My adrenaline was pumping so much, I just went crazy,” he confessed. “We went to places that I don’t think we’ve ever been before…”

“I’m just very flattered and grateful that people really love this show.”

Elon Musk to Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

Musk, who runs Tesla and SpaceX, will become the rare “S.N.L.” host not from the worlds of entertainment, politics or sports. There have been some unexpected “Saturday Night Live” hosts over the years.Turn the clock back far enough and you will find that the long-running late-night comedy series has offered its stage to such unlikely candidates as Brandon Tartikoff, when he was the president of NBC’s entertainment division, and George Steinbrenner, the pugnacious owner of the Yankees.“S.N.L.” has drawn eyeballs and raised eyebrows by occasionally recruiting from the political world, too, including the New York mayors Ed Koch and Rudolph W. Giuliani and presidential hopefuls like Steve Forbes and John McCain. In 2015, it gave a platform to the then-candidate Donald J. Trump in an appearance that the show’s own cast members later said they had come to regret. Now it seems that “Saturday Night Live” is attempting its own moonshot of sorts. NBC said on Saturday that Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla and chief engineer of SpaceX, would host the program on May 8. Miley Cyrus, the pop singer and a frequent performer on “S.N.L.,” will be the musical guest that night. The announcement was made a few hours after the Crew Dragon Endeavour, a SpaceX craft, had successfully docked with the International Space Station on Saturday morning, following its launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Friday.Musk, 49, has previously appeared on shows like “South Park,” “The Simpsons” and “Rick and Morty” and in films like “Iron Man 2” and has gained an online following for initiatives like his recent announcement that Tesla would accept the digital currency Bitcoin for payments.Musk has also been criticized for his treatment of his employees, and his companies and projects have come under close scrutiny.Last month, the National Labor Relations Board upheld a 2019 ruling that found that a tweet Musk had posted, which appeared to threaten workers with the loss of stock options for planning to unionize, was illegal. The board also ruled that Tesla had illegally fired a worker involved in union organizing. And more than 400 workers at a Tesla plant in Fremont, Calif., tested positive for the coronavirus last year after Musk reopened the plant, flouting guidelines from health officials, according to public health data released in March by the website PlainSite. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has confirmed that it is looking into nearly two dozen crashes involving vehicles that were using or may have used Tesla’s Autopilot technology. Musk has said that the technology makes Tesla cars safer than other vehicles.Previous “Saturday Night Live” hosts this season have included the actors Daniel Kaluuya, Carey Mulligan and Regé-Jean Page, the musicians Adele and Nick Jonas and the comedian Bill Burr. Selena Gomez is heading back into the kitchen for a third season of her popular cooking series “Selena + Chef”.

The pop star and actress has been spending her time during the COVID-19 pandemic cooking up tasty treats at home with the help of noted chefs, and now her show has been picked up for another course on America’s HBO Max streaming service.

Selena has also turned the TV project into a fundraising opportunity, with each chef highlighting a charity of their choice in each episode.

In the first two seasons of the unscripted show, which was initially launched last summer (20), “Selena + Chef” has helped to raise $360,000 (£259,000) for a variety of non-profits.

Season two debuted in January, with Selena whipping up delicious dishes with the likes of Kelis and Curtis Stone.

Meanwhile, the first season featured the likes of Ludo Lefebvre, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, and Roy Choi.

One episode even featured a cameo appearance by her best friend Taylor Swift. “I’m very jealous of your whole setup and the fact that you guys are cooking together. It’s pretty great. I’m really envious,” the “Blank Space” hitmaker said.

“If you don’t send me the recipe, we’re going to have words,” she also joked after Selena showed her the dish. “I want to be served that.”

Each of the finalists also flaunted their best fashion in the three categories namely “Black and White”, “Red All Over” and “Grand Finale Eleganza Extravaganza”.

Later in the Britney Spears-themed finale, Rose and Kandy Muse faced off in a performance of “Work B***h”. While they both tried their best to win the judges’ hearts, one of them had to be eliminated. Unfortunately, Ru decided that Rose had to be sent home.

The next lip sync performance was between Symone and Gottmik. The pair offered a fierce battle as they performed to the tune of Britney’s “Till the World Ends”.

After a long deliberation, Ru announced that Symone was the winner of season 13 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. Joy Behar Denies 'Taking a Dig' at Caitlyn Jenner Despite Repeatedly Using the Wrong Pronoun

    WENN/Joseph Marzullo/Avalon

The ‘View’ co-host accidentally refers to the former Olympic gold medalist as ‘he’ instead of ‘her’ when they are discussing the latter’s intention to run for California governor on the show.

    Apr 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Joy Behar did not intentionally misgender Caitlyn Jenner. Despite repeatedly using the wrong pronoun when discussing the latter’s intention to run for California governor on “The View”, the show’s co-host was reportedly not “taking a dig” at the athlete-turned-reality star.

Offering more details of the 78-year-old’s phrasing was Page Six. A source told the outlet, “This was not political or her taking a dig. She didn’t say it pointedly. She kept making the mistake. She corrected herself, and then accidentally did it again.”

The source went on stressing, “She was not being malicious by any means.” The insider further noted that she is an “advocate” who “has been honored by [LGBTQ+ rights group] GLAAD.”

      See also…

Joy made the blunder on “The View” on Friday, April 23 when weighing in on Caitlyn’s gubernatorial run. “He’s got this guy Brad Parscale running his campaign. What do you think about that? I mean that guy was accused of using campaign funds to enrich himself,” she told co-host Sunny Hostin, before correcting herself, “That’s who is running his campaign, or her campaign, rather.”

The comedienne then apologized on the show after going on a commercial break. “So first of all let me apologize for my pronoun mix-up, I think I just didn’t get enough sleep last night. I had no intention of missing them up, and I tried to correct it immediately, but, whatever, it just came out, so I’m sorry if anybody was upset by that,” she pointed out.

Joy’s apology, however, was not well received by some people. “It was completely tone-deaf, the apology,” a separate source told Page Six. “I do think it was an honest mistake, but the apology was completely dismissive. She misgendered the woman four times and then said, ‘whatever.’ ” Another insider, meanwhile, described it as “so disrespectful” and “embarrassing.”

Sarah Jessica Parker's Farting Scene is Chris Noth's 'Sex and the City' Favorite

    New Line Cinema

The actor who played Mr. Big in the franchise has a lot of fond memories working on the Carrie Bradshaw series but his favorite one is a gassy scene featuring SJP.

    Apr 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Chris Noth’s favourite “Sex and the City” moment was smelly not sweet – because Sarah Jessica Parker’s character farted on him in bed.

The actor played the show’s Mr. Big – the on-off love interest of Sarah Jessica’s character Carrie Bradshaw for years – and he has really fond memories of working with her, but their best time together revolved around a gassy scene.

“My favourite (episode) was when she farted in bed,” he laughed on America’s “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, “and I insisted on doing the sound (for the scene) to get it right – because I’m an expert in farts.”

      See also…

The scene sparked a prank idea for Noth, who later picked up a whoopee cushion. “She’s (Parker) getting a glass of wine and I put it (whoopee cushion) on her chair, and we were discussing future vacations and she sits on it and goes, ‘Waaaahh,’ ” he chuckled.

Reminiscing about other favourite moments, Chris added, “I also enjoyed falling into the pond with her in Central Park (New York) – that was a one take shot. There were so many great moments of comedy. It was just a blast.”

Noth and show favourite Kim Cattrall won’t be joining Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon for the upcoming HBO Max reboot of the beloved series, titled “And Just Like That…”, but it was announced earlier this week (beg19Apr21) that John Corbett, who played Aidan in the TV series, has signed on to return.
