It was widely reported that Nick struggled for years with alcohol and drug addiction.

He was suspended from the 13th season of Deadliest Catch and reportedly went to a rehabilitation facility to aid his recovery from addiction.

Nick’s tragic death comes just months after the passing of another Deadliest Catch star, deckhand Mahlon Reyes.

Reyes died after suffering a heart attack aged 38.

He passed away in his hometown of Whitefish, Montana, in August.

Mahlon survived the attack after being rushed to a nearby hospital, but never regained consciousness.

Therefore his family made the heartbreaking decision to take him off life support.

His wife explained his death came as a huge shock, and said Mahlon’s Deadliest Catch crew planned to pay their respects by scattering some of his ashes at sea.
