EastEnders hints Phil Mitchell attacked Ian Beale ahead of 'Christmas Day death'

EastEnders has dropped a hint suggesting Ian Beale was attacked by Phil Mitchell, leaving him for dead.

The clue comes ahead of the Christmas Day death – which saw Ian being threatened in last night’s show.

The businessman was left for dead after a brutal attack earlier this month and fans are eagerly waiting for the big reveal of who the culprit is.

In the latest BBC One episode, Ian was left horrified after seeing a “R.I.P Ian Beale” message appear on a screen, alongside images of those residents who have passed away.

The message appeared during community night, and Ian reeled in horror as he looked around at the suspects, including Bobby Beale, Ben Mitchell, Suki Panesar and her son Kheerat amongst others.

Wife Sharon watched as he told her the mystery culprit was there with them – he just didn’t know who.

But despite panning towards several suspects which had been confirmed at the time of the attack – one new suspect was added to the shot, Phil Mitchell.

Out of the suspects Phil was the new addition.

Just moments earlier, Kim had told her daughter how danger often hit Walford, reports The Mirror.

As little Pearl asked about the people in the photos on the screen, Kim told her none of them were around anymore.

Pearl asked her mum why this was the case, with Kim telling her that Albert Square could be a dangerous place.

It begs the question – could Phil have done it possibly with Sharon?

The episode restarted an online debate, One wrote: “Bets on Sharon and Phil teaming up to kill Ian.”

Another predicted: “She is working with the Phil and Ben. Sharon believed Dotty about Dennis and had told Phil.”

It wouldn’t be the first time a resident has met a gruesome end on the festive day.

Viewers will have to tune in to the episode to see what happens to Ian, and who has been tormenting him.

EastEnders airs at 9:10pm on BBC One on Christmas Day.
