Gogglebox star Sophie Sandiford puts on a smile despite losing Debenhams job

Gogglebox star Sophie Sandiford took to social media on Wednesday to reveal she had lost her job at Debenhams.

The 24-year-old, who appears on the popular Channel 4 show alongside her older brother Pete, appeared to still be in good spirits as she bid farewell to the department store.

Taking to Instagram, Sophie shared a photo of her and a female colleague posing outside their local Debenhams wearing face masks.

The reality TV star simply captioned the post: “We might be going but we are going with a smile #debenhams.”

Sophie’s 290,000 followers were quick to comment on the picture and send their well wishes.

“Sorry to hear this luvvy, hope you manage to get something sorted xxx,” one person wrote.

Another posted: “Good luck to you all, such a sad time,” while a third fan added: “Onwards and upwards.”

Sophie’s post comes after it was reported that JD Sports had pulled out of talks about a possible rescue of Debenhams following the collapse of Arcadia, putting 12,000 jobs at the department store at risk.

Luckily for Sophie, her and Pete are a hit on Gogglebox so it’s highly likely they won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

While Channel 4 themselves have never confirmed the stars’ wages, according to The Sun, each family is paid the same monthly allowance of £1,500.

The paper reported that the family members split the fee at their own discretion. On top of this, each family is reportedly treated to a takeaway during filming.

On Tuesday Debenhams confirmed it will begin a wind-down “whilst continuing to seek offers for all or parts of the business”.

Staff were reportedly told on Tuesday morning that the stores are set to close.

Sports fashion retail company JD Sports was the last remaining bidder for Debenhams, which is in administration.

Until the end of last week it looked as though it was closing in on a deal, however the recent collapse of retail giant Arcadia is understood to have impacted JD Sports’ decision not to move forward.
