Pop star Cher Lloyd reached out to Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson back in 2011 after she failed to join her band mates at an awards ceremony because she “didn’t feel good about herself”.
Jesy, 29, announced on Monday that she’s quit being a member of the world’s biggest girl band nine years after winning The X Factor alongside Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
In an emotional statement shared on her Instagram page, the singer revealed being in the band has taken a toll on her mental health and she found the “content pressure” very hard.
The singer’s had a tough time with vile trolls ever since she shot to fame on the ITV singing competition.
Swagger Jagger hitmaker Cher appeared on This Morning the same year Little Mix won The X Factor, and she offered some advice to Jesy after being a victim vile online abuse herself.
Cher told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford at the time: “I actually called Jesy because I was at an awards ceremony and she didn’t turn up with the rest of her band. And I was a bit like, ‘Why isn’t she here?’
“So I spoke to the girls and they were saying ‘She doesn’t want to come today because she doesn’t feel good about herself.’
“So I rang her up and I was like, ‘You’ve got the biggest platform ever. You’ve got a massive opportunity. Go out there and be happy’.”

Jesy has been inundated with supportive messages from fellow X factor stars and celebrity pals after her shock announcement.
Cher commented underneath Jesy’s emotional statement: “Sending lots of love”, alongside two red love heart emojis.
X Factor host Dermot O’Leary penned: “Big love Jesy x.”
Former contestant Stacey Solomon, who is now a Loose Women panelist, added: “Love u” followed by a black love heart emoji.
The Saturday’s band member Frankie Bridge, who has publicly spoken about her own personal mental health struggles, wrote: “So brave of you xx”
Jesy told her followers that she was leaving Little Mix with a “heavy heart” as she reflected on the success the band.
She wrote: “I can’t thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
“You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never ever forget it.
“The truth is, recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.”
Jesy added: “I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy.
“I’m ready to embark on a new chapter in my life – I’m not sure what it’s going to look like right now, but I hope you’ll still be there to support me.”
Perrie, Jade and Leigh-Anne have since released a statement on Little Mix’s official Twitter account confirming that they are “not ready for it to be over” and that they will continue as trio.
