Lady Sarah McCorquodale – Princess Diana's sister who dated Prince Charles first

The Crown Season Four has finally dropped on Netflix, and this time viewers will enjoy the Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher years.

In the series we are also introduced to Princess Diana’s sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale.

Lady Sarah is the eldest of John and Frances Spencer’s four children – Jane, Sarah, Diana, and Charles.

Lady Sarah gained her title in 1975 after the death of her grandfather, and she married Neil Edmund McCorquodale in 1980.

As it transpires, without Lady Sarah, Diana might never have become a princess.

Diana may have won the hearts of many people around the world, but not many remember her sisters Lady Sarah and Lady Jane.

But Lady Sarah, who was six years older than Diana, actually dated Prince Charles fist.

However, when Sarah dated Charles in the 1970s, she said she wouldn’t marry him “if he were the dustman or the King of England“.

After that comment, their romance quickly faded, and not long after that Prince Charles started dating Diana.

The couple met in 1977, when Charles, then 29, attended a grouse shooting party at the Spencer home as a guest of the sister of Diana, then 16.

Commenting on Diana and Charles’ engagement in 1981, Sarah said: “I introduced them. I’m cupid.”

In The Diana Chronicles, Tina Brown wrote that Diana told her friends that Charles was she would one day marry Charles, and that he’d be “the one man on the planet who is not allowed to divorce me”.

However, Diana later told biographer Andrew Morton that her first thoughts of Charles were “God what a sad man”.

In his engagement interview in 1981, Charles said: “I remember thinking what a very jolly and amusing and attractive 16-year-old she was.

“I mean, great fun, and bouncy and full of life and everything.”

Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated in 1992, and officially divorced in 1996.

After Princess Diana’s death on August 31, 1997, both of her sisters went with Charles to collect her body from Paris.

The Crown Season 4 is available to stream on Netflix now.
