Marcus Rashford surprises 11-year-old Emmie with Pride of Britain Award

Footballer Marcus Rashford gave one little girl the surprise of a lifetime when he presented her with a Pride of Britain Award.

The 22-year-old sportsman was keen to meet Emmie Narayn-Nicholas after she set up Emmie’s Kitchen to provide food for parents living at the bedsides of sick children, often hours from home.

In the adorable clip, Emmie can be seen packing up food when she suddenly recognises Ashley and Jordan Banjo from dance troupe Diversity.

Of course, the Britain’s Got Talent stars were there to surprise her – but tried to play it cool at first and pretended they hadn’t seen Emmie.

As the men started practising some dance moves, Jordan suddenly pointed over to the youngster and said: “That’s Emmie!”

Ashley then told her: “We’re here for you because we know about all the amazing work you do. How important is it to you Emmie to help people?”

“Really important,” Emmie replied shyly, before Jordan added: “You’re an inspiration Emmie, genuinely you’re an actual legend.”

“And guess what? Me and Jord are here to help you get all of this sorted today, but I just don’t know if two of us is going to be enough?” Ashley added.

The pair then called over Marcus as Ellie’s face lit up.

“What you do with Emmie’s kitchen is actually really close to Marcus’ heart as well, you know giving food to people and helping people eat,” Ashley told her.

Marcus then said: “The two boys have got you a present, a little gift underneath there,” as he pointed to the table.

“So, Emmie you have won the Pride of Britain child of courage award. Very well deserved. I feel very honoured to have been able to award you with this.”

Diversity’s Jordan and Ashley Banjo were on hand to introduce Marcus to Ellie

Of course, Ellie couldn’t believe it and later said: “I was really shocked when Marcus came in and gave me my award.

“I can’t really believe everything is happening, I still think I’m in a dream,” she added.

Ellie’s life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of eight.

Ellie has been given the Pride of Britain Child of Courage award for all of her hard work

Instead of going back to school after the summer holidays, she spent five weeks in hospital – followed by two and a half years of gruelling treatment.

But the brave youngster was determined something good should come out of her ordeal.

Less than a year later she set up Emmie’s Kitchen to provide food for parents living at the bedsides of other sick children.

She will be seen getting her Pride of Britain award when the show is broadcast on ITV at 9pm on Sunday.
