Nigella Lawson baffles viewers with unusual way she pronounces 'microwave'

Chef and presenter Nigella Lawson sent her fans and viewers of Cook, Eat, Repeat into a frenzy with the unusual way she pronounced microwave during her cookery session.

In Monday’s episode of the BBC show Nigella, 60, was talking viewers through how to cook brown butter colcannon, aka veg filled mash potato.

She said: “I still need a bit of milk – full fat – which I’ve warmed in the [meecro-wa-vay],” as she cracked on with the cooking.

Baffled viewers rushed to social media to ask if they’d heard Nigella correctly, as many were left in hysterics by the TV moment.

One posted: “Henceforth, ‘mecrowavay’ shall forever be in my vocabulary and microwave will cease to exist Queen @Nigella_Lawson has spoken.

“Thank you and good night.”

Another added: “The way @Nigella_Lawson just pronounced ‘microwave’ is a defining moment of 2020. #CookEatRepeat”.

A third chipped in: “I love that last night @Nigella_Lawson let us know we’ve been saying microwave incorrectly this whole time. A public service.”

A fourth wrote: “How do I set Nigella Lawson’s pronunciation of microwave as my ringtone?”

However, Nigella seemed to confirm that her pronunciation of the word is closer to how Italian and Spanish people say microwave.

Her account liked a tweet from a fan which explained it to other viewers, which read: “[It’s] pronounced as an Italian or Spanish person would /mee-kro-wa-veh/, ie, the right way.”

She also left viewers baffled after saying “butter facial” while making the dish, which saw her mashing potatoes, adding kale and chopping spring onion for the colcannon.

Nigella asked fans: “I think of it as caramelised butter with all of the gorgeousness that implies… Is there anything better than a butter facial?

Her cookery show was certainly racked a number of strong reactions from viewers in recent weeks.

She sent people into meltdown as she showed off her toast-buttering technique to ensure the butter melted into the bread.

She taught viewers to butter the toast when it’s hot, then put on an extra layer, than to sprinkle sea salt flakes on top.
