Slowthai leaves NME Awards following altercation during Hero of The Year win

British rapper slowthai appeared to have a heated exchange with a fan who slammed him while he scooped the Hero of The Year Award at the NME Awards shows at the O2 Brixton.

The 25-year-old star was halfway through his acceptance speech on the stage when a member of the audience shouted at him, resulting in the rapper throwing a glass of champagne into the crowd.

Slowthai, real name Tyron Kaymone Frampton, responded: “Thank you for ruining my speech, thank you very much. Wasteman.”

An audience member then threw two items at the Deal Wiv It hitmaker, which is when Slowthai walked towards the edge of the stage.

He went on to throw his own drink into the crowd before hopping off the stage and had to be held back by security.

A video shows the star lunging towards the fan, who was also dragged out by security.

Katherine Ryan, who was hosting the event was seen on stage attempting to cool the situation down.

The rapper then jumped off stage into the crowd

It’s alleged that slowthai was labelled a “misogynist” as he was flirting with the comedian while he was accepting his award.

Ahead of the incident, slowthai performed his and Mura Masa’s hit, Deal Wiv It to open the awards – which saw him walking on various tables and spraying the audience with champagne.

He soon made his way back to the O2 Brixton stage to hitch up his boxers, patriotically a pair of Union Jack style before mooning the entire audience.

Fans instantly took to Twitter to discuss the incident, with one tweeting: “It’s just kicked off at the NME Awards #Slowthai. Just after he won hero of the year #NMEAwards2020.”

A second penned: “It’s all kicking off now, brb. So slowthai just won hero of the year award. A kid shouted ‘misogynist’ at him (after the Katherine flirt) and he went mad.

“Kid threw mic at him. He threw drink and then tried to fight the crowd. I feel stressed. [sic]”

Meanwhile, a third chipped in: “Can’t believe slowthai won hero of the year and then got into beef and had to be taken out by security.”

The Northampton-born star was nominated for Best Album In The World, Best British Album, Best Song In The World and Best British Song.

He was also nominated for Best Solo Act, Best British Solo Act and Best Collaboration.

Daily Star Online has approached Slowthai’s representatives for comment.
