BREAKING John Callahan dead: All My Children actor dies suddenly after stroke

All My Children actor John Callahan has died aged 66 after having a stroke at his California residence.

Paramedics were called to the home of the actor, who played Edmund Grey in the popular American soap opera.

He was rushed to Eisenhower Medical Center, where he was put on life support.

Hi daughter Kaya and ex-wife Eva LaRue, who also stars in the soap opera, were notified about John being taken into hospital immediately.

The pair rushed to the hospital in Rancho Mirage California to be by the actor’s side.

John’s spokesman confirmed his death was not at all related to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, he did say that the actor’s daughter and former spouse were not allowed to stay at the hospital for long because of the risk of covid-19.

They were notified by the hospital after midnight that he had died.

Addressing the sad news in a statement, John’s ex said: “We are extremely saddened and distraught over the loss of John. He was my great friend, co-parent and an amazing father to Kaya.

“The absence of his bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. Words cannot express the shock and devastation we are feeling at this time. The Yankees just lost one of their greatest fans.”

John and Eva married in 1996 and welcomed daughter Kacey in 2001. The pair divorced in 2005.

A number of other celebrity tributes rolled in for John, including one from Sarah Michelle Gellar who starred in the soap from 1993-1995, she wrote: “He stepped into a lot of moments in my life because I didn’t have a father to be there. Johns greatest joy in his life, was when he had a daughter of his own @kaya_callahan. John left us this morning. I promise you GP just as you were there for me, I will always be there for smoosh (Kaya) and @evalarue as well.”
