Launching shortly after Sex and the City and Friends wrapped in 2004, Desperate Housewives provided the perfect balance of drama, humour and girl gossip, that TV viewers were so desperately craving again.
The show boasted a dazzling cast of well-established actresses such as Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) and Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp) as well as giving big breaks to actresses such as Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) and Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo).
Following all eight series being added to Amazon Prime, Daily Star Online has taken a look at whether the show’s leading ladies remained friends, and what they’ve been up to since since the programme came off-air eight years ago.
Edie Britt (Nicolette Sheridan)
Nicolette Sheridan played promiscuous character Edie Britt, who bedded most of the housewives’ husband.
She announced her departure from the programme in 2009 during the show’s fifth season. Her episode, which saw her killed off, aired in April that year, three years before the programme wrapped in 2012.
After her character was written out of the show, Sheridan, 56, filed a lawsuit against programme creator Marc Cherry, claiming wrongful termination and assault.
Sheridan alleged Cherry struck her on the head and cited that as the reason her character was killed off.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2018, she claimed: “I reported him and was retaliated against for doing so and fired. That is against the law.”
Cherry told Sheridan’s lawyer Mark Baute: “I tapped her head,” but denied that he “walloped” when questioned about why he chose to kill her character off.
ABC exec Mark Pedowitz told juror he approved Edie Brit’s demise on the show and said: “The character had run its course.”
A judge threw out her case in 2017, eight years after the initial lawsuit.
Cherry’s reps issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly that read: “Nicolette Sheridan was not a victim at the hands of Marc Cherry — a court has already ruled to that effect after hearing the testimony of multiple witnesses. We are disappointed that the judicial determination continues to be ignored.”
Sheridan said in the 2018 article that her legal battle would continue.
She claimed: “I was vilified for standing up for my rights, not only as a woman but as a human being.
“And I was punished for it. But that wasn’t going to stop me because I had to get my dignity back, and if I’d let it slide, I couldn’t have looked myself in the mirror.”
Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria)
Eva Longoria played former supermodel and designer clobber-loving housewife Gabrielle Solis, who was married to Carlos Solis (Richard Antonio Chavira).
The duo famously had a very turbulent marriage, which at one point saw Gabby initiate an affair with her teenage gardener John Rowland (Jesse Metcalfe).
After bidding farewell to Wisteria Lane, Eva, 45, appeared in films like Lowriders, Overboard and Dory and the City of Lost Gold.
She was also an executive producer on Marc Cherry’s Desperate Housewives’ follow-up Devious Maids.
Eva also boasts a robust directing career, and was a vocal founding member of the Time’s Up Movement.
In 2016, Longoria married Josè Antonio “Pepe” Bastón Patiño, president of Televisa, which is the largest media company in Latin America.
The couple welcomed their first child together Santiage “Santi” Enrique Bastòn in 2018.
Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross)
Marcia Cross played gun-loving housewife extraordinaire Bree Van De Kamp on the show, who boasted incredible baking skills and iconic one-liners.
The stunning redhead appeared in all eight seasons of the popular ABC programme.
Following her time on Desperate Housewives, Marcia, 58, starred in a 2015 episode of Law & Order: SVU. She then joined ABC’s Quantico in a recurring role throughout 2018.
In September of that year she revealed on Instagram that she had successfully completed treatment for anal cancer.
She later shared it was linked to the throat cancer her husband Tom Mahoney was diagnosed with in 2009, possibly through the same type of HPV.
Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman)
Felicity Huffman played Lynette Scavo for the entire run of Desperate Housewives.
Lynette was married to Tom Scavo (Doug Savant) and despite their ups and downs, the couple had the most robust and long-lasting marriage on Wisteria Lane.
Since the show wrapped, Felicity, 57, who is married to fellow actor William H.Macy, starred in the shows American Crime (which earned her three Emmy nominations), Get Shorty and When They See Us.
In March 2019 she found herself among dozens of parents charged by the FBI and U.S Attorney General’s office in a nationwide college entrance exam cheating scandal.
Huffman was accused of paying someone $15,000 (£12,328) to pretend to be her daughter Sophia and take her SAT exam for her.
In May that year, she pleaded guilty to honest services fraud and was later sentenced to 14 days in jail.
She was released two days early because her release date fell on a weekend.
Huffman has maintained a low profile since then.
Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher)
Teri Hatcher, who shot to fame in the nineties playing Lois Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, played unlucky-in-love Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives for all eight seasons.
Teri, 55, had recurring roles on CBS sitcom The Odd Couple and Supergirl following her time on the programme.
In 2018, she launched her own YouTube channel Hatching Change that features segments including “Van Therapy” and “Don’t Eat ‘It’ Out”.
It’s a badly kept secret that some of the Desperate Housewives cast members didn’t get on, and Hatcher has found herself at the middle of “diva” claims.
In the aftermath of Huffman’s arrest, it was revealed that Eva Longoria and Marc Cherry had written letters of support for Huffman to the court.
While Longoria didn’t name Hatcher directly she said: “I dreaded the days I had to go to work with that person because it was pure torture.
“Until one day, Felicity told the bully ‘enough’ and it all stopped.
“Felicity could feel that I was riddled with anxiety even though I never complained or mentioned the abuse to anyone. I know I would not have survived those 10 years if it wasn’t for the friendship of Felicity.”
Eva later joked during a Jimmy Kimmel appearance that 99% of the cast got on – mentioning Felicity and Marcia Cross – but not naming Hatcher or Nicolette Sheridan.
While Cherry wrote to the court: “We had a problematic cast member on my show. She was a big star with some big behavioural problems. Everyone tried their darnedest to get along with this woman over the course of the show. It was impossible. And things went from bad to worse.
“At some point during season seven this woman decided she would no longer speak to her fellow cast members. ‘Felicity still insisted on saying, ‘Good morning’ to this actress, even though she knew she wouldn’t get a response.”
In 2012, Marc Cherry testified Sheridan told him Hatcher was “the meanest woman in the world,” when Sheridan tried to sue him and ABC for wrongful termination and assault – a case that was dismissed by the judge.
