Caroline Flack 'wanted to plead guilty to assaulting her boyfriend,' claim pals

Caroline Flack “wanted to plead guilty” to assaulting her boyfriend “so she could move on with her life”, according to friends.

The tragic Love Island host was accused of assaulting Lewis Burton, a former tennis player and model, at her north London flat in the early hours of December 12.

At a court hearing on Christmas Eve, prosecutors said police arrived to a scene that was “like a horror movie”.

It was claimed she hit her sleeping boyfriend over the head with a lamp – which she denied.

Caroline took her own life in February after the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the trial would be going ahead in three weeks time.

Friends say she wanted to confess to the attack because she did not want police body cam footage showing her covered in blood to be played in court.

A pal said: “She desperately wanted to plead guilty. She thought it would mean she could move on with her life.

“Yes, she was distraught at what she did but in her eyes it was an accident. She didn’t care about losing her job on Love Island.

“She just wanted the whole episode to go away. You can’t stop thinking that if she had pleaded guilty, she would be alive today.

“She felt so much shame at the thought of that footage coming out, it was too much to bear.

“She would say that she’d rather die than it come out publicly in court but we didn’t realise she actually meant it.”

The news comes just weeks after former chief prosecutor for north London Ed Beltrami, said he had “no regrets” about pressing charges against Caroline.

He said: “You’ve got to do what you think is right. You cannot do what you think is popular.”

Caroline’s mum Chris slammed his comments, saying: “My daughter was unable to defend herself during her life and is unable to do so now. Shame on you.”
