EastEnders viewers were terrified Ben Mitchell would test positive for coronavirus after watching tonight’s episode, which saw Albert Square’s resident gangster coughing before falling to the ground.
Ben, played by Max Bowden, has been battling difficulty with his hearing since the ill-fated boat party earlier this year, which left him partially deaf.
Things took a turn for the worse this evening when a burst eardrum left him spluttering with a cough, eventually collapsing to the ground in pain.
Telling Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) he was suffering from the flu, Ben was later rushed to the hospital, leaving viewers with a gigantic cliffhanger.

Watching the scenes unfold from their sofas, EastEnders fans were left fearing the worst, convinced Ben had contracted Covid-19 due to his coughing and flu-like symptoms.
On Twitter, one said: “Oh my ‘as Ben Mitchell_ got the Corona flu? #EastEnders.”
A second agreed: “Ben’s had that cough a long time, definitely got Corona #EastEnders “.

While a third chimed: “Does Ben have corona?? #eastenders “.
” EastEnders Ben in need of a mild steroid to make sure he survives. #coronavirus,” added a fourth.
After tonight’s “series finale,” EastEnders will be disappearing from our screens for the next few weeks, due to the suspension of filming enforced by coronavirus restrictions.

BBC bosses ran out of episodes that had been pre-recorded before the lockdown hit, meaning viewers will have to wait weeks – or even months – before the soap returns.
In its place, show bosses are launching a spin-off series on Monday evenings, titled Secrets From The Square, hosted by Stacey Dooley.
Tuesday nights will see classic episodes of EastEnders air, bringing fans of the soap on a trip down memory lane.
