EastEnders fans went on a trip down memory lane this evening, rewatching the classic episode: Who Killed Lucy Beale.
However, they were raging once they realised the iconic “How’s Adam” gaffe from the episode had been edited out.
Filmed live, the 30th-anniversary episode nearly went without a hitch, except for one iconic slip-up in the script department.
Tanya Branning, played by Jo Joyner, fudged her lines during a scene with Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), forcing the two actresses to improvise.
As the two pals caught up over a glass of wine, Tanya accidentally said: “How’s Adam?”
While her character was meant to say “how’s Ian,” Jo had mistakenly referred to actor Adam Woodyatt by his real name.
In tonight’s episode, however, the glitch was nowhere to be seen – prompting disappointed viewers to take to their keyboards.
One said; “Ermm why have they cut one of the most iconic soap moments of all time “how’s Adam?” Justice for Tanya #EastEnders #howsadam.”
A second added: “Who tuned in to this episode again just for the ‘How’s Adam?’ bit, for it to be edited out….”
“They really cut the “How’s Adam” out of this episode? This is bad,” added a third.
Appearing on The One Show tonight, actress Laurie reflected on the hilarious slip up as she chatted with hosts Alex Jones and Michael Ball.
She recalled: “The problem was, the whole country knew it was live.
“And [Jo] is a fantastic actress, I really felt for her. I had no lines to say afterwards and I was thinking ‘what can I say?’ and I was about to say ‘Tanya, have you been drinking?’ when a third AD took the massive decision to throw Mimi [Keene, who played Cindy Beale] on early.”
An double feature from February 2015, the legendary episode unmasked Lucy Beale’s killer in dramatic scenes, after months of speculation.
Played by Hetti Bywater, Lucy was killed by her younger brother, Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) – leaving the Beale family in shock.
While Ian Beale was convinced Jane was behind the crime, she eventually confessed to covering for Bobby and masking what had truly unfolded.
As the EastEnders cast scrambles to film new episodes of the iconic soap, BBC has been filling the gap by playing some of the most beloved scenes from over the years.
So far, BBC have yet to confirm when EastEnders will be back on air, but the break is set to last through the majority of the summer.
