Gemma Collins' weight loss transformation from skinny jabs to health diagnosis

TOWIE favourite Gemma Collins has continued to impress her fans with her impressive weight loss over the past year.

The 39-year-old television personality has always been open and honest about her struggles with her weight and she’s using her days in coronavirus lockdown to shed the pounds and get fit.

Gemma began her most recent weight loss journey when she appeared as a contestant on Dancing On Ice in January 2019.

The GC lost an estimated three stone and has been focusing on her health since taking part in the ITV ice-skating show.

Former I’m A Celebrity contestant Gemma has admitted to using injections to aid her body transformation and been keeping her adoring fans updated on her shrinking waistline via her Instagram account.

From sharing videos of herself rinding a bike in the rain to posting snaps of her slimmer frame wearing skimpy outfits, a majority of Gemma’s 1.8 million followers have been quick to congratulate her on her weight loss journey thus far.

Daily Star Online has taken a look inside Gemma’s weight loss transformation since she shot to fame almost a decade ago.

Heartbreaking health diagnosis

Diva Forever star Gemma recently opened up about how her battle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which can lead to weight gain, difficulties in getting pregnancy among other side effects.

Gemma bravely penned a lengthy caption alongside a slim snap of herself in her twenties.

The reality star often takes to her social media pages to share throwback snaps of herself before she became a household name.

She wrote alongside it: “As you can see guys when I was in my 20s I was very slim then I was told I had PCOS and it’s been a struggle ever since…

“However I make the most of myself and remain positive because it’s what in your heart counts the most.

“Sending love to all the PCOS sufferers it’s not easy and always be kind people people are not always over weight because of all the stereo typical bullying comments !!!

“I CHOSE to rise above and continued to promote body confidence even when I had my own personal struggles and the secret to my success was just being me.”

The star admitted the the didn’t realise she was piling on weigh in her twenties and sh turned to food when she was struggling emotional.

‘Fast cash inspired yo-yo dieting’

Gemma joined the cast of reality show The Only Way Is Essex in 2011.

She was introduced to TOWIE fans as a car saleswomen and quickly became a favourite amongst viewers.

Gemma lost three stone at a bootcamp before she graced our television screens in a bid to feel as confident as possible on the show.

She later admitted on Channel 5’s In Therapy series in 2016 that her yo-yo dieting was part of a quick money-making scheme.

She said: “I can remember it all, them telling me you need to go over to the park in gym wear and them saying ‘We want to get some terrible shots of you but then you will get £15,000 for the pictures Gemma’.

“Looking back now I would never ever have gone down the route of the weight gain and weight loss but it was just a fast way to a quick bit of money.”

Juice camps and ‘hypno gastric band’

Gemma underwent a dramatic weight loss five years ago when she entered a £5,000-a-week “juice camp” in Portugal in 2015.

She lost three stone by living off fruit drinks during a four-week long stint.

Juice master Jason Vale previously told The Mirror: “She lost two-and-a-half to three stone in total in four weeks, living on nothing but freshly pressed juice.

“She has been doing exercise as well but not military-style. None of it is forced. Nobody can force Gemma to do anything, frankly.”

Gemma tried hypnotherapy in the same year to shed more pounds and revealed she had been hypnotised into believing she had a gastric band in a bid to stay slim.

She told Now! Magazine at the time: “I’ve gone from a size 22 to an 18.

“I had a bit of 3D lipo and saw a hypnotist called Robert Hisee, who put a hypno gastric band in me.

“Now I have four mouthfuls of food and I can’t eat any more.

“I feel like I can’t breathe I’m so full.”

‘Skinny jabs’ backlash

The Essex babe has been showing off her shrinking waistline by posing for lockdown photographs.

Gemma has not been shy in coming forward about her use of weight loss injections, SkinnyJab.

The controversial injections carry many health risks and act as an appetite suppressant.

They cost around £350 for a month-long programme and Gemma has been faced with backlash or promoting the product.

The official website states that SkinnyJab “removes hunger from the equation”, also reassuring that the suppressant used in the the plan regulates blood glucose levels that allows the body to turn stored fat into energy.

Nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert told The Sun Online: “Any form of self-injection can be risky and an area that only your GP or health professional can advise you on, risk of infection, place of injection, the dose inside.”

Swapping takeaways for home-cooked meals

Gemma recently told her fans the key to her weight loss had been eating meals at home, instead of ordering out.

The media personality wrote: “I’ve been concentrating solely on my health recently and feel so much better because I have had TIME!!!!! Yes TIME !!! to focus on it.

“No eating out and having to cook from scratch.

“I do have Saturdays off to have whatever I want however use the next three weeks wisely, keep a positive mindset try and stick to routine in the week I find it helps.”

Writing in her 2013 biography, Basically… My Life As An Essex girl, Gemma penned: “I started to fixate about food in my twenties.

“I would think about it from the minute I woke up to the minute I went to bed.

“I had low self-esteem. I was suffering and without realising I morphed into a bigger person.”

She added: “I went from being a thin girl who never had a weight problem and was a constant size 10 to a girl who couldn’t stop growing.”
