The Italian chef thought his life was over when he lost control of a desert dune buggy while filming a new TV show alongside Gordon Ramsay.

Recalling the terrifying ordeal, the This Morning and Celebrity Juice star admitted he thought he was “going to die” when he hit the vehicle during a challenge with fellow co-presenters Gordon and Fred Sirieix.

The incident, which took place during filming of the American Roadtrip, saw the star bulldoze his four-wheel drive into their parked camper van.

Speaking to the Radio Times, he explained: “I saw the RV [recreational vehicle] coming very close, and I thought: ‘OK, that’s it.’

“I was going 70 or 80 miles an hour, and when I hit it I thought: ‘This is over now. I’m going to die.’

“The thing that scared me the most is that my fuel tank burst and I had petrol all over me.”

Meanwhile, Gordon opened up about his fellow co-hosts antics, explaining Fred launched himself onto his mother, in the buff.

He said: “They went through my bedroom, through [wife] Tana’s drawers and then jumped in my pool, stark naked, in front of my poor mum.

“Ten years ago my mum, who smoked for 40 years, had a heart bypass and they nearly gave her another heart attack.”

Turning to Fred, he added: “Then you dived on my mum – a 73-year-old Scottish woman – on the sofa, nude.”

The American Roadtrip sees the stars visit numerous cities in the US, sampling the local delicacies and taking part in various challenges.
