Andi Peters says ITV will not “hide” Kate Garraway ‘s emotion to viewers after she returned to work following her husband’s battle against coronavirus.
Kate has spoken publicly of her family’s anguish for Derek Draper after he was rushed into intensive care and placed into a coma at the end of March.
The presenter returned to presenting Good Morning Britain last month as her husband continues to recover from the disease.
Now Andi, who presents the show’s competition segment, has told how her colleagues are delighted to have her back on the show but won’t censor her looking upset.
He said: “It’s been amazing having Kate back on the telly.

“Genuinely it has made me smile and you can see when she is doing some item, they are so close to home.
“But again, the beauty of ITV Daytime, if Kate looks upset, we don’t hide that.”
Andi who takes over the helm from Lorraine Kelly on her show later this month said: “She’s going through a horrific time but to come back, she’s so strong.
“The viewers don’t mind if she looks upset. We’ve all just loved having her back.”

Earlier this week Kate gave viewers an update about her husband Derek Draper’s health condition, explaining he had undergone a “plasma exchange”.
During an interview with Dr Amir Khan, she reflected on her hospital experience with Derek after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.
Although Derek no longer has the virus, it has wreaked havoc on his internal organs.
