Kate Garraway fresh Derek heartache as his parents can't see him due to lockdown

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, 52, has been dealt fresh heartbreak after government rules mean it’s all but impossible for Derek Draper’s parents to visit their son even if his condition improves.

Derek’s parents have been unable to see their son for a long time after he was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 in March this year.

After being placed into a medically induced coma, Derek is now free of coronavirus but the illness has wreacked havoc on his body.

Due to his parents being based in Lancashire they are now under Tier 3 rules meaning they are not able to leave the area.

Derek is in hospital in London near his and Kate’s family home.

A source said: “Kate was prepared for this to happen but it’s still a blow.

“Derek’s parents have been unable to see him for a long long time and now any chance they will be able to before Christmas has all but vanished.

“Even if he was able to come out of hospital they live in Lancashire which has been placed until Tier 3 lockdown.

“They are not allowed to travel out of the nearby area so visiting Kate and Derek’s family home in London would be out of the question – especially as they themselves are in a risk category”.

A rep for Kate Garraway declined to comment when contacted by Daily Star Online.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain earlier this month, Kate admitted while she is still bravely presenting the hit ITV show behind the scenes Derek has had some ‘worrying lows’.

Kate said: “I am doing ok thank you.

“Everybody is onboard with ‘helping Kate’ – I am very lucky.

“Derek has had… I feel like I am boring people… he is stable but actually in between when I am not talking to you there are small ups and worrying downs.

“Actually, the last few days have been pretty stable so I’m keeping everything crossed really.

“It is though, it is hard.”

Speaking frankly about the fact hospitals are having to restrict visitors due to Covid sweeping the country, Kate continued: “You understand why they have to do it.

“They have to protect those inside but to do that they have to restrict footfall.

“Darcy has not been able to see Darcy.”
