Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitarist Jack Sherman dies aged 64 as band pay tribute

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist Jack Sherman has died aged 64.

The guitarist passed away of unknown causes.

Red Hot Chili Peppers confirmed the sad news in a tribute as they called him “unique”.

An Instagram statement read: “We of the RHCP family would like to wish Jack Sherman smooth sailing into the worlds beyond, for he has passed.

“Jack played on our debut album as well as our first tour of the USA. He was a unique dude and we thank him for all times good, bad and in between. Peace on the boogie platform.”

The post racked up more than 88,000 likes as fans of the band left their own tribute.

One wrote: “I’m so sorry for you guys’ loss. Like every past and present member of RHCP, he brought a unique flavour and his contributions won’t be forgotten.”

While another added: “Rest In Peace Jack, hope you ride a saber tooth horse through the Hollywood hills in heaven.”

A third chimed in: “Man this sucks. Rest in peace Jack Sherman. You will be forever in our hearts.”

Sherman replaced on-again, off-again guitarist Hillel Slovak in the band in time to play on their 1983 debut and co-wrote much of the follow-up, Freaky Styley, released in 1985.

But by the time that album came out, Sherman was out of the group and Slovak was back in, for one of many stints to come.

Jack was then heard in lesser roles on two more of the band’s albums, Mother’s Milk and The Abbey Road EP.
