Russell Crowe cruelly mocked over appearance on This Morning as fans hit back

This Morning viewers were caught off guard by Hollywood star Russell Crowe’s appearance after he spoke to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video link.

Russell, 56, who was on the ITV programme to talk about new film Unhinged, rocked a full white beard and longer hair.

This is a far cry from his iconic role in Gladiator – although that film was released 20 years ago.

A number of viewers expressed their shock at his appearance, however many hit back and stuck up for the New Zealand native.

One exclaimed: “When did Russell Crowe audition for the Ricky Tomlinson movie? Looks uncanny.”

Another added: “It doesn’t even look like Russell Crowe. It’s probably his clone?”

A third cruelly wrote: “What the f*** has happened to Russell Crowe?”

However, hitting back, a different viewer tweeted: “Some of the comments re: Russell Crowe’s weight are a bit mean spirited. The guy’s getting on a bit and has raised two grown kids and by his own admission likes a beer or two.

“Sounds like your average bloke to me. Doesn’t feel the need to conform.”

And a second added: “Love Russell Crowe because he doesn’t give a f***, he’s not the usual Hollywood celeb, all booted and suited. Look forward to his new movie.”

Russell was on the show to talk about his new movie Unhinged, which is set to be among the first films released during the coronavirus lockdown.

The thriller sees Russell play a mysterious, menacing character only known as the Man, who terrorises a divorced single mother after a road rage confrontation.
