Saturday Night Takeaway fans in tears over Ant and Dec's tribute to axed finale

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly returned to our screens this evening for the final episode of the current series of Saturday Night Takeaway.

Fans of the ITV primetime show know the Geordie duo usually present the grand finale live from Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, but this evening’s show was different.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe, Ant and Dec were forced to present the finale from the comfort of their own home.

It’s not the first time the pair presented the show from their living rooms, as last week’s show was also recorded in the same format.

In an attempt to keep spirits high, Ant and Dec opened tonight’s show by revisiting the opening of the 2017 finale, live from Florida.

But before the magical clip played to fans, Ant was intrigued to find out what Dec had been up to during coronavirus lockdown.

Ant asked his best mate: “How’s your week been, Dec?”

Dec joked: “Hectic. Busy. Hectic. I’ve been for a walk nearly every day. I put the bins out on Tuesday.

“On Thursday, I went to the kitchen four or maybe five times.”

Ant continued to tell fans: “As you know we are meant to be live from Walt Disney World Resort Florida rather than sitting here in our comfies at home eating crisp sandwiches, but don’t worry we’ve got the next best thing.”

As the throwback clip played of Ant and Dec dancing and singing in front of the iconic Disney castle, fans couldn’t help but get emotional over the fact the pair couldn’t host tonight’s show from the Magic Kingdom.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “The absolute best start to the show ever. Instant smile and even brought a little tear to my eye. Thank you.”

Another added: “Just what we needed. Ant and Dec never fail to brighten up our lives at this terrible time!.”

A third said: “I remember this first time round and I’m crying all over again.”

A fourth tweeted: “Why am I crying right now? I’ve seen that before.”
