Strictly's Alex Scott to replace Sue Barker as host after she's axed from BBC

Ex-footballer Alex Scott is reportedly in line to “replace Sue Barker” after 24 years of being A Question Of Sport’s new host.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star is reportedly set to take the former sportswoman’s place on the BBC programme.

Insiders say Alex is due to meet with show bosses next month before new castings and contracts are signed in December.

It’s thought she will start the role in the new year.

She has been eyed-up by show execs after two previous appearances on Strictly.

“Alex is being lined up as host, as a direct replacement for Sue,” a source told The Sun.

“Like Sue, she’s a former sportswoman and she also has five years of broadcasting under her belt.

“She’s a natural on camera and, crucially, lives and breathes all things sport.”

The source added Alex is “genuinely considered the best woman for the job”.

To add to the speculation, bookies have slashed her odds to 2/1 to land the gig.

Rumours Alex is taking over Sue’s role comes after it was revealed the veteran host had been axed from the panel.

Sue’s fellow team captains – including ex-rugby star Matt Dawson and former cricketer Phil Tufnell were also axed.

She expressed her disappointment, telling Mail Online: “I love the show so much they would have to remove me, it would have been tough for me to walk away.

“It’s been my dream job. But I understand the BBC wants to take the show in a new direction and I’m sad to say goodbye.”

Names rumoured to replace Matt and Phil include football pundit Jermaine Jenas, ex-cricketer Alex Tudor, former rugby ace Jason Robinson, hockey star Sam Quek and cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy.
