Tipping Point viewers were left wincing today after one contestant named Anne Frank as a fictional character.
During Thursday’s show, hosted by Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard, school teacher Steph appeared on the programme to bag the cash prize.
However, despite rising to the challenge and trying to answer the questions it seems her general knowledge wasn’t up to scratch.
After a series of incorrect answers, Steph made a humongous clanger about the late World War II diarist Anne Frank.
The question read: “In a classic novel by Johanna Spryl, what is the name of the orphan sent to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps?”
Looking confused, Steph replied: “I have got an idea but don’t know whether to pass or not… I think Pete [the other contestant] might know it.”
She added: “Erm, I don’t think this is right but I am going to go for it as I think Pete knows it anyway.
“I am going to go with Anne Frank.”
The correct answer was Heidi.
Within minutes Twitter was flooded with messages from shocked viewers.
One viewer wrote: “Haha funny, Steph’s pupils probably cheering her on from home,” before adding a sad emoji.
Another added: “Oh poor Steph. How can she do morning playground duty after this?”
A third mocked: “I think Steph recalls Anne Frank escaping the Nazis, leaving Switzerland and settling in the state of Long Island.”
A fourth tweeted: “She just makes it up as she goes along.
“Would take my kid out of her class after seeing this.”
