Vinnie Jones marks sobriety landmark with touching snap of late wife Tanya

Vinnie Jones marked his seventh year of sobriety by sharing a touching throwback snap of himself and his late wife, Tanya.

The former Wimbledon midfielder turned actor quit boozing in 2013 and now believes that alcohol is the “worst drug on the planet”.

Taking to his Twitter account which boasts 421,100 followers, the 55-year-old shared a touching message with his followers alongside the throwback picture with his wife.

Vinnie, who starred on last year’s X-Factor: The Celebrity captioned his snap: “Tomorrow is my 7-year alcohol DRY anniversary, the worst drug on this planet will get found out one day!!!

“If I can quit, believe me; you can, and your life will be a million percent better! I guarantee it.

Sadly, Vinnie lost his wife Tanya last year following a battle with cancer. She was 53 when she passed away.

However, it’s evident that she will always remain a big part of his life as he remembered her while celebrating sobriety.

The X-Men: The Last Stand actor first spoke about his battle with alcohol in 2013.

His admission came after he was photographed kissing Russian singing sensation Lama Safonova outside a Moscow bar, later issuing a public apology to his wife and entering therapy.

Vinnie documented his journey in his autobiography, It’s Been Emotional.

He wrote: “That incident caused the biggest test of my 20 years of marriage. We’ve been through everything and this angel is still there for me through thick and thin…

“I had risked everything that mattered to me over a stupid night out in Russia…

“That is the lowest I’ve seen Tans in all the time we have been together… Now I know we have a lot of work still to do, but we both love each other more than anything on the planet and that is getting us through.”

He went on to pen: “That is why, for the first time in my life, I have started seeing a psychologist. I have virtually given up drinking alcohol…

“I’ve been going to see [my psychologist] once a week for eight months. For an alcoholic to combat problems, he or she has to admit to those problems first.”
