Good Morning Britain’s Alastair’s Campbell made a playful joke at former counterpart Tony Blair on Wednesday’s show.
It came after Susanna Reid was busy discussing “hair issues for women on TV” during an interview with Tony Blair when his former Labour strategist interjected with a savage quip.
Blair explained that he’d asked his team: “So what have I received most traffic about over this last year?”
To be told that it was actually his “hair” that had been the talking point.
Susanna fumed: “Ok, so welcome to being a woman on television…”
It was at this point she was cut off by her own co-star Alastair, who quipped at Tony: “Are you a woman?”
Susanna continued: “Because quite frankly what you look like and what your hair looks like is probably the main thing that you get traffic about.
“You grew your hair a little longer and welcome to my world.
“A little insight to, you know, how the other half live.”
Meanwhile, Alastair who was on his third and last trial day with ITV made a jaw-dropping on-air blunder as he accidentally announced that the “Queen was dead”.
At the time of the error, Vinnie Jones was discussing the death of his wife Tanya while unveiling his new book, Lost Without You.
Having read the majority of Vinnie’s heartfelt publication, Alastair explained: “We talked a lot about Prince Philip, you know obviously after the death of the Queen and one of the phrases that kept being used was something she said after September 11 – that statement that we had to take to New York.
“Grief is the prize we have to pay for love.
“And that’s kind of what comes out of your book.”
The former Labour strategist’s earpiece must have been buzzing as GMB producers spotted his red faced slip of the tongue.
At which point, Alastair completely cut off the football legend to issues apologies to viewers who were now baffled about the statement.
Clearing up any confusion, he interjected mid chat: “Sorry, I think I may have just announced the death of the Queen. I meant Prince Philip.
Co-star Susanna helped to smooth over his slip of the tongue, adding “It’s ok, people knew what you meant”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
