Amy Winehouse unable to perform as she was 'delirious' after bender, pal claims

Stricken Amy Winehouse was unfit to perform at a gig as she was “barely conscious” after a five-day booze bender, a close pal claims.

Tyler James claims the Rehab star, who died aged 27 just a month later, was taken on to a plane for a European tour despite being “delirious and weak”.

A runner-up on The Voice UK, Tyler, 39, recalled Amy had “a full-blown relapse” in June 2011.

He said: “Every day management came round – they’d tell me I needed to get her to stop drinking.

“The day of the show, the boys picked Amy up off the sofa and put her in the car. She was barely conscious.”

Tyler said “delirious and weak” Amy was helped on to a plane and had “no idea where she was” on arrival in Belgrade, Serbia.

Tyler, Amy’s pal since their teens, tells in his book My Amy how he saw her booed at the gig.

Her management then called off the tour.

A source close to the management said: “She rehearsed for the tour well and it was hoped it might be a good move to take her out of her usual environment where she was drinking.

“When it turned out badly, the tour was scrapped after the first night.”

Amy died in her home in Camden on July 23, 2011, with the subsequent inquest confirming her cause of death as accidental alcohol poisoning.

Her brother Alex later claimed Amy’s eating disorder, and her resulting weakness, was the foremost cause behind her death.

“She suffered from bulimia very badly. That’s not, like, a revelation – you knew just by looking at her…” he told The Guardian in 2013.

“She would have died eventually, the way she was going, but what really killed her was the bulimia…

“I think that it left her weaker and more susceptible. Had she not had an eating disorder, she would have been physically stronger.”

Amy’s funeral was held in North London, with the likes of Nick Grimshaw, Kelly Osbourne, and Mark Ronson among the procession.

Her ashes were buried alongside those of her grandma Cynthia at Edgwarebury Lane Cemetery in London.
