Naga Munchetty was forced to shut down a reporter before things got a bit too racy on BBC Breakfast this Thursday, as he made a cheeky snogging quip live on-air.
The presenter was sitting alongside co-host Jon Kay on the red sofa to discuss the alleged Christmas party taking place at Downing Street in 2020 – in the midst of pandemic rules.
The pair introduced Chief Political Correspondent Adam Fleming to make further enquiries about the implications of the allegations.
Adam had the latest advice from the government health minister, explaining: “Now, the second story is about Christmas parties this year, where the government advice seems to be getting a little bit more nuanced.
“Up until yesterday, what the Health Secretary was saying was, ‘Your party should go ahead as planned, take sensible precautions like making sure the room is well ventilated and taking a lateral flow test to check you don’t have Covid before you go’.
“Enter the Work and Pensions Secretary on ITV last night, half-jokingly or maybe fully-jokingly saying you also now shouldn’t, in her words, be snogging strangers under the mistletoe.”
He added: “The government is starting to get a little bit more involved in the intimate, personal matters, you could say.”
Sensing the conversation was getting slightly derailed, Naga chimed in: “Adam, thank you very much. Interesting that you use the word snogging, there, it’s been a while since we’ve used that word!”
She added: “But never mind.”
Red-faced, Adam said: “Well, maybe at work! In my personal life, I mean…”
But Naga wasn’t having any of it, as she quickly said: “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!” to cut him off abruptly – giggling as she did so.
Which is when she continued: “You stick to political correspondence, shall we, and we’ll keep the rest out of it!”
The video connection was quickly severed as she thanked Adam for his input – but Jon Kay wasn’t letting things slide.
He warned Naga: “You might hear that word quite a lot over the next few days!”
“Indeed,” she agreed – definitely not sounding happy about it.
BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
