BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker was forced to apologise to Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder on Wednesday morning after he accidentally labelled him as Mancunian.
The British singer song-writer made sure he quickly corrected the broadcaster which left Dan rather red-faced live on air.
While attempting to ask Shaun his thoughts regarding the defacing of English footballer Marcus Rashford’s mural in Manchester over the weekend, presenter Dan had a slip up.
Dan said: “So I’ve got to ask you as a very proud Mancunian.”
Quickly interrupting him, Shaun exclaimed: “Salfordian actually me!”
Taken aback, Dan replied: “Well ok. Apologies, Salfordian. Thank you for correcting me.”
“I’m sure there are many people shouting at me as well.”
Making sure he got the conversation quickly back on track, Dan proceeded to ask the singer his opinion on the racist comments left on Marcus’ mural.
Gathering his thoughts, Shaun said: “You can’t swear on this programme, but it’s sick. And I don’t mean in a good way. Nasty.”
Shaun, who is often known to fans for his profanity, had several BBC Breakfast viewers on the edge of their seats as they questioned whether he could keep it clean on morning television.
Taking to Twitter, some viewers aired their thoughts.
One tweeter commented: “Waiting with great anticipation for Shaun Ryder to take #bbcbreakfast off air with his antics. Something that the vast majority of the great British public would be very grateful for.”
While another said: “The #BBCBreakfast producer must have his hand hovering over the MUTE button!”
A third penned: “Shaun Ryder on BBC breakfast ..what could possibly go wrong.”
“Shaun Ryder on #BBCBreakfast ? This will not end well,” a fourth viewer said.
As well as discussing the recent racial football incident, Shaun spoke about his new music as well as his current health condition.
