BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent seemed to shut down her co-host Dan Walker quite rapidly on Wednesday, after he bravely asked her whether she had a nice few minutes “without me”.
Due to the pandemic, interviews on the morning programme have been taking place via video link, but on Wednesday, Sally, 49, was joined in the studio by Shadow Secretary of State for Education, Kate Green.
However, because of social distancing rules that are still in effect, Dan, 44, had to remove himself from his spot on the red sofa.
On his return, the presenter asked Sally: “Did you have a nice 15 minutes without me?”
Sally quipped: “Did you notice he wasn’t here? Did anyone? No?”
Shaking his head and giggling in disbelief, Dan replied: “At least one person, surely.”
Presenter Sally then went on to explain the reason for Dan’s absence to viewers at home.
She said: “Dan’s been on the other side of the studio of course because we have to social distance when we have a guest in.”
Dan then mentioned how he felt glad that guests were allowed back in the studio.
He chimed: “It’s nice to have a guest back in the studio, but only one of us can be involved.”
On Tuesday morning’s episode Sally appeared to shut her colleague down again after he suggested he would wear shorts on Wednesday’s programme.
Due to the lovely weather that Britain has been experiencing this week, journalist Dan was very excited that the warm temperatures would continue.
But as he made his strip joke, Sally was left rather unimpressed.
Turning to weather lady Carol Kirkwood, Dan said: “Oh I might present breakfast in my shorts tomorrow, Carol.”
But Sally was quick to shatter his dreams and exclaimed: “Oh, heck!”
Meteorologist Carol didn’t seem to mind Dan’s strip joke though and said via video link: “I’ll look forward to that!”
Laughing at the responses, Dan said: “The boss is listening, I’m sure it will be quickly banned.”
