Benny Hill’s amazing career is set to be celebrated in a lavish West End show.
Benny – The Musical will tell the story of the much-loved comedy legend who rose from humble beginnings as a milkman to become the nation’s favourite funnyman.
The script is being developed by comedy writers Colin Edmonds and Michael Pugh.
Colin, 65, said the show would include Benny’s sacking by Thames TV in 1989, adding: “It’s important to tell the full story and not shy away from the sad parts.”
The production will feature Benny’s comic songs, including Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West).
His favourite characters such as Fred Scuttle and the legendary Hill’s Angels will also appear. Repeats of The Benny Hill Show on the new channel That’s Christmas have trebled its average audience figures.
Benny’s unexpected TV revival comes more than 30 years after he was axed from telly, and nearly two decades since his show was last repeated.
He died aged 68 in 1992.
