Beyoncé and Jay-Z's oldest daughter Blue Ivy bags first Grammy award, aged nine

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, has become the second-youngest Grammy winner in history at the tender age of nine-years-old.

Blue Ivy scooped up the gong for Best Music Video after taking the starring role in the Brown Skin Girl music video alongside her superstar mum, SAINt JHN and WizKid.

She is now the second-youngest winner behind Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters who was eight when she took home the award for the O Brother, Where Art Thou? the soundtrack, which won album of the year, back in 2000.

The prize was awarded during the Grammys virtual Premiere Ceremony, in Los Angeles, taking place before the main televised show airing at midnight UK time.

The music video beat out competition form Harry Styles’ “Adore You”, Woodkid’s “Goliath,” Anderson. Paak‘s “Lockdown”, and Future‘s “Life Is Good” featuring Drake.

The Recording Academy’s official account wrote on Twitter: “Congrats Best Music Video winner – ‘BROWN SKIN GIRL’ @Beyonce #BlueIvy @wizkidayo Sparkles #GRAMMYs.”

As well as appearing in the music video, Blue Ivy sang the opening and closing lines of the track, making her a featured artist.

Another fan wrote: “Blue Ivy winning a grammy is 100% what we all needed on this Sunday afternoon.”

The song was part of Beyoncé’s Lion King album, The Gift’, and also marks Beyoncé’s 25th Grammy win.

Beyoncé is the most nominated artist of the night tonight, with nine nominations.

Her other nominations include song and record of the year, best R&B performance and best rap song, with her already winning best rap performance for “Savage” with Megan Thee Stallion.

If she wins just four tonight, she will become the most Grammy-winning female artist in history, and tied for second overall.

The superstar Knowles family is now made up of four Grammy winners including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Solange and now Blue Ivy.

In an ABC special about the making of the album, Beyoncé said: “When I see fathers singing ‘Brown Skin Girl’ to their daughters, to know that my daughter can have the same opportunities and feel confident and feel like she doesn’t have to take her braids down, she can comb her Afro out, she can glisten in her brown skin. That’s why I make music,”
