Bobby Brown has stressed that he and former wife Whitney Houston “fought hard”, but “loved even harder.”
Singer Whitney, one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, tragically died in February 2021 aged just 48.
The coroner’s report concluded she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors.
Her tumultuous marriage to Grammy-award winner Bobby – and drug-use – received widespread media attention.
But speaking in an emotional episode US show Red Table Talk, Brown stressed that the volatile couple had a strong relationship despite the countless allegations of abuse.
On this week’s episode of Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk, hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, daughter Willow Smith and Jada’s mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris sat down with Bobby to discuss his late wife.
Bobby also discussed the tragic death of his daughter Bobbi Kristina.
“You and Whitney had an abusive, volatile relationship?” enquired Jada.
To which Bobby replied: “The violence that we incurred was using [drugs], you know? That’s violence in itself.”
“In itself. Absolutely,” echoed Jada.
Before Bobby added: “You know, that’s abuse. We abused drugs and alcohol. We fought hard verbally and we loved even harder.”
Bobby is now approaching two decades of being sober from drugs, as well a year sober from alcohol.
“How long have you been clean?” asked Willow.

“I’ve been clean 19 years from narcotics,” answered Bobby. “I’m going on a year from alcohol.
Bobby spoke candidly on the show and also stressed that he believed family friend Nick Gordon was to blame for the death of Whitney and Bobbi.
Bobby was adamant his daughter Bobbi’s ex-fiancé Nick supplied the drugs that led the death of the duo, who were both tragically found dead in fatal bathtub incidents three years apart.
Gordon, who died in January 2020 of a heroin overdose, was deemed liable for Brown’s wrongful death in September 2016 after failing to appear to court.
Questioning Bobby on his daughter’s death, Jada asked: “So you believe that there was foul play in Bobbi Kristina’s death?”
“Definitely,” Bobby replied.
Willow then asked: “Like, that maybe he drugged her?”
Bobby responded: “Definitely. He was the only one there with both situations, with my ex-wife and with my daughter, and they both died the same way.”
“So you think that he killed Whitney as well?” Willow probed.
Bobby said: “I believe so.”
New Edition singer Bobby has also previously vocalised his pain about the death of his son Bobby Brown Jr, who died of drug and alcohol overdose in November last year, aged just 28.
