Charles Bronson tells inquest he'd have 'hunted scumbag' who gave drugs to ex

Britain’s most violent prisoner Charles Bronson had to be warned about his inappropriate behaviour during the inquest on Tuesday into the death of his ex-wife.

At the inquest, the coroner found the death of Paula Williamson, an actress who appeared in Coronation Street, to be “drugs related”.

Bronson was warned after her made comments criticising Peter Jones, who was Paula’s partner at the time of her death on July 29, 2019.

The convict said he would have hunted down the “scumbag” who gave his ex-wife drugs that killed her, the Stoke Sentinel reports.

Coroner Emma Serrano said she would not tolerate ‘veiled threats’ or name calling during the hearing.

Bronson, who was permitted to ask questions as Paula’s legal next-of-kin, also criticised the police during the hearing.

He said: “I would like to know why the police haven’t investigated who the scumbag is who gave her the drugs in the first place.

“If I was out there I would have their name and address in 24 hours – and I still will find out when I get out there.”

Bronson, who has spent the majority of the past four decades in prison for various violent crimes, also hit out at a detective who was giving evidence.

Bronson, who is serving a life term, said: “I don’t think the police have been too clever on this one.”

Bronson and Paula, who died aged 38, became pen pals in 2013 and got married in 2017.

But the pair then split up and their marriage was set to be annulled before her death.

Paula, who also starred in Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Doctors, was found dead by Mr Jones at her home in Sneyd Green Staffordshire.

Mr Jones told how he found Paula unresponsive at 6.40am after she went up to bed at around 1am.

The inquest heard had slept on the sofa that night.

After Paula was discovered paramedics were called and confirmed Paula had passed away.

DC Phil Pegg, from Staffordshire Police, said an investigation into Paula’s death found there were no suspicious circumstances.

Paula had a number of substances in her blood, according to a toxicology report.

Substances found included therapeutic levels of several types of medication, plus cocaine and alcohol.

The report stated the cumulative effect of these substances could have had a fatal effect.

Paula’s death was recorded as multiple death toxicity.

Area coroner Emma Serrano said she did not believe Paula had any intention to cause her own death.

Concluding the inquest, Ms Serrano added: “Paula had been taking substances. She did not realise the consequence of those substances all working together would cause her to pass away.”
