Corrie Katie McGlynn's life – glam transformation, work struggles and awkward split

Strictly Come Dancing star Katie McGlynn left the soap Coronation Street in emotional scenes in 2019 as her character Sinead Tinker sadly lost her battle with cervical cancer.

However, she feared it was the worst possible time to leave the cobbles due to it not being long before the Coronavirus pandemic, as her work quickly dried up due to filming being shut down.

But since then the soap star has gone on to have great success landing a new role in Hollyoaks and going on to join BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing, although her time on the show was sadly cut short.

Daily Star has taken a look at Katie’s life away from the cobbles both on-screen and off.

Katie played the popular character, Sinead Tinker, in the long-running ITV soap Coronation Street.

In her dramatic last scenes, her character died from cervical cancer in December 2019.

Katie previously admitted that leaving Coronation Street at the start of the pandemic would affect her career.

She told the Daily Star: “As soon as I left Corrie, I didn’t expect to get any work. I thought I’d give it a year. And I didn’t expect the pandemic.

“So when I got the call from my agent about ‘The Syndicate’, I couldn’t believe it was actually happening. I felt so grateful I could work. I counted my blessings.”

Katie went on to play Georgina Clarke on BBC One drama The Syndicate.

The story told of five lottery winners who were based in Leeds and aired earlier this year.

However, it wasn’t until June this year and 18 months after she had left the cobbles that the 28-year-old landed a part in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

Along with the new acting role, Katie unveiled a new transformation dying her from blonde to brown shocking fans with the look.

The actress confirmed that she was set to play Becky, who is a mum, and friends with Diane Hutchinson, played by Alex Fletcher.

Katie previously told The Sun: “When I first read the script, I knew instantly that this storyline was an important one and something I could sink my teeth into.

“I’m so excited for everyone to meet Becky. I’m hopeful the story will have an impact on the viewers as it covers some extremely current and important issues.”

She added: “I’m super-humbled to continue doing the work I really love and hope everyone enjoys watching it all unfold on screen as much as I’ve enjoyed filming it.”

It wasn’t until a month later that Katie made her debut on Hollyoaks on July 5.

The young actress was announced to take part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing lineup.

Katie, who was paired up with Strictly pro dancer Gorka Marquez for the 2021 series, was sadly eliminated in week three.

Before joining the show, the ex Corrie told The Sun: “It’s been so hard keeping it a secret, but I can finally say that I’m getting ready to shake my shimmy and become part of the Strictly family!

“I’m really not a dancer, but I’m so excited to learn a new skill on this crazy journey and cannot wait to slip into some sequins along the way.”

Katie went on to say she planned to give it “110%” when she hit the dance floor.

Love life

Katie has had a colourful love life over the years, but she went through a split after finding romance with salesman Benjamin Roberts, which ended in 2019.

Katie and Benji reportedly began dating in June 2017, and even went away on a lavish Thailand getaway together for their Christmas together.

She even shared snaps of Benji on their first year anniversary, writing: “Never did we think he’d end up my other half #flownby #fellformymate #copilots.”

However, she ended up deleting all trace of their romance after their relationship fizzled out two years later.

Despite Katie’s brutal move, an insider told The Sun: “Katie and Benji were really smitten when they first met and enjoyed a bit of a whirlwind romance to start with.

“Things just started to fizzle out towards the end of last year and they made the mutual decision to split. It was all very amicable and they are still friends.”
