Dr Hilary Jones is preparing to release a string of novels later this year, bringing attention to the unsung heroes of time past and present.
Good Morning Britian’s resident GP, 67, is known for keeping the nation up to speed on the latest developments in medical stories on both television and radio and has been a prominent figure during the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, the medical brainiac is putting pen to paper to tell the tale of both a physical war and a health war emerging during the turbulent years between 1914 and 1918.
Dr Hilary’s novel, Frontline, will feature the story of an aristocrat’s daughter, who is deployed to rural France where she meets a mystery man.
Frontline, which is to be released in September 2021 sees the world erupt during World War One, with countries fighting against one another, killing thousands.
However, while fighting for liberty in the fields of Europe, an even deadlier killer is sweeping the world, the first known influenza pandemic.
The soldiers are fighting against one another, while medical staff on the front line are fighting the Spanish flu which infected around 500 million people, one-third of the world population.

It’s believed that the pandemic killed an estimated 50 million people, with the mortality rate being higher in the 20-40s age range, those below five and over 65’s.
Speaking about his literary venture, Dr Hilary said: “During a brief period, 1914-1918, the world was dealt the twin blows of war and a pandemic. For those innocently caught up in such events, the consequences are shocking, random, terrifying and life-changing.

“War and disease bring about the worst in people and challenge our concept of humanity, but they also bring about the best in people and define what is truly important in life.
“Frontline is a celebration of all those unsung heroes past and present who possess resilience, kindness and courage in equal measure..”
Fiction publisher at Wellbeck Publishing, Jon Elek went on to add: “This is big, page-turning stuff full of incredible historical and medical detail – I was completely gripped by the story, and I think readers will connect with these brave, naïve, characters who are caught up in the tide of history.”
Frontline will also feature the rise of a famous British medical family in the twentieth century, as well as the discovery of penicillin by the NHS.
A portion of all proceeds from the collection will be donated to the NHS Charities Together foundation, a charity partner of the NHS and an umbrella membership of the 241 NHS charities across the UK.
