The Met Gala is normally held on the first Monday of May, but this year the event has been pushed back.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many important events have been unable to take place this year.
The new date of the star-studded event has now been confirmed as September 13, 2021.
Last year’s black-tie event was cancelled due to the pandemic, but it’s hoped things will be ‘more normal’ when the event finally goes ahead later this year.
Attendees of the Met Gala are required to dress in line with the theme, and this year’s dress code is American fashion.
The guests and the designers who dress them attend the ceremony together as each other’s date.
The American fashion theme is set to be explored in two separate instalments.
Marina Kellen French Director of the Met, Max Hollein, said: “Fashion is both a harbinger of cultural shifts and a record of the forces, beliefs and events that shape our lives… In looking at the past through this lens, we can consider the aesthetic and cultural impact of fashion on historical aspects of American life.”
Actor Timothee Chalamet is reportedly co-hosting the upcoming Met Gala 2021.
The star, 25, is said to be presenting alongside poet Amanda Gorman and CFDA Chairman Tom Ford, according to Page Six.
Timothee, who has never attended the fashion event before, is said to have been chosen by Vogue’s Anna Wintour for her annual Costume Institute benefit.
The Met Gala is an extravagant fundraiser held to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
Now in its 73rd year, the ball was created in 1948 to commemorate the opening of the New York museum’s new Costume Institute.
The event is invite-only and takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
