Gary Glitter has reportedly been moved to a different jail cell his fellow inmates have named a ‘paedo-kabin’.
It is believed the hit pop star, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was humiliated by his new pad after prison officers relocated his dormitory to a new section of at the HMP The Verne, near Portland, Dorset.
According to The Sun, the 77-year-old, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sex offences, was moved to the temporary cabin last month in an attempt to increase social distancing within the prison grounds.
His new digs include a bed, a shower, a sink and a toilet, but it is expected that the criminal “won’t be enjoying” his new cell, a source told the publication.
An insider revealed: “It’s about as grim as it gets. The cabins creak every time you move about, they smell and they’re either too cold or too hot.
“It’s like sleeping in one of those toilets they put up at music festivals. He won’t be enjoying it one bit,” they reassured.
The disgraced singer, who rose to fame as a glam rocker in the 1970s, was jailed in 2015 for indecently assaulting young girls.
Gary has since been classified as a “low risk of harm to the public” and it is believed that the former star would be eligible for release as early as February 2023.
Elsewhere, it had been reported that the former singer was set to move from his current prison to an open prison after having served more than seven years of his total sentence.
Over the summer months, it was claimed that the humiliated artist had been informed by governors at The Vern that he had been selected to move to an open prison over the next few months.
So far, there has been no sign of the former pop star’s transfer, and Justice Secretary Robert Buckland reportedly has the power to block the proposed move should it be requested in the future.
During a chat with Dorset Echo back in June, former Big Break presenter Jim Davidson discussed the former star’s rehabilitation progress while in prison in which he shared how the convicted paedophile believed to be “remorseful” about his crimes.
He told the publication: “I spoke to Paul when I visited The Verne two year ago. He’s remorseful and he looked ready to start a new life.”
