George Michael 'would be alive' if first love Anselmo Feleppa didn't die, friend claims

George Michael’s long-time friend Andros Georgiou claims the singer would still be alive if his first big love, Anselmo Feleppa, hadn’t died.

Speaking openly on the anniversary of his death, Andros explained that every Christmas is a painful reminder of George’s death and his song Last Christmas only solidifies the fact that he is gone.

But Andros is also adamant that the Careless Whisper singer would still be with us today if he hadn’t of lost the love of his love.

Sharing his thoughts with the Mirror, the close friend said: “George was the love of his life and if he hadn’t died I think George would still be here.

“After Anselmo, he didn’t find real love, he had a lot of sex and met lots of people but he never found what he had with Anselmo. I saw how happy they were. I think he was quite lost after Anselmo died, it hit him hard.”

George’s song Jesus to a Child was a tribute to Anselmo, a dress designer who was 33 when he died in 1993 from an “Aids-related illness.”

George and Anselmo were only a year into their relationship when the Brazillian fashion designer passed away.

However, Grammy award winner George revealed that he was already aware that Anselmo was suffering from a terminal illness shortly after they had met when George was 27-years-old.

Previously speaking on Desert Island Discs in 2007, singer George said: “It was a very strange first love. It was very distorted by the situation. This was the first love of my entire life.

“It was tragic that I lost him, but it was a wonderful experience meeting him. There have only been three times I’ve really fallen for anyone.

And each time, on first sight, something has clicked that told me I was going to know that person. It happened with Anselmo across a lobby.”

At the time of his death on December, 25, 2026, George had a long-term relationship with American art dealer Kenny Goss and lived with hairstylist Fazi Fawaz.

At the time, Fazi said: “We were supposed to be going for Christmas lunch. I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed.”

George left most of his £97.6million estate to his sisters.
