Gogglebox viewers were ‘in tears’ over the thought that fan-favourites Jenny and Lee may never return on the show.
Earlier there was confusion over their departure from the show after they had announced they had filmed their last episode.
Jenny and Lee told their 499,000 Instagram followers last week that tonight’s episode was ‘the last one’.
“Why is it a sad Friday?” Lee asked, before suddenly inhaling and looking shocked as Jenny revealed: “Because it’s the last one.”
He later clarified: “It’s our last filming week this week so we’re filming today,” while looking seriously towards the camera on the clip.
The pair addressed rumours about their future after the final episode of the Channel 4 hit show’s 17th series on Friday.
On Twitter, they posted on their joint account: “It’s Friday it’s Gogglebox D Day for Jenny. Did Jenny get it right see ya at 9 to find out xx #Gogglebox”
Fans were quick to express their concerns, with one replying: “Lee are you guys finished with Gogglebox or just saying goodbye for the end of the series? You guys have been so funny.”
But they squashed concerns while apologising to fans as they responded: “Just saying goodbye to series 17 back in September sorry.”
The confirmation was posted with a series of laughing emojis, realising how it may sound to die-hard fans.
Jenny revealed on the show that she is now at retirement age, which further led to rumours of her potentially leaving the programme.
She said to Lee: “I’m 66 you know, I get my pension in June, I’ve been notified.”
Lee said in response: “You are one of those old women aren’t you who goes ‘don’t you know how old I am, I’m 66 you know?”
Jenny replied: “Oh no, I don’t ever say that. I tell them I’m 48 and I’ve had a hard life.
“I never tell anybody I’m 66, even though I’m not really bothered about my age.”

In the final show before the weekend, viewers were in meltdown as Mary and Mary returned for the finale.
They were delighted to see them back on their screens as the best friends from Bristol made a special appearance.
They couldn’t take part and were off-screen due to coronavirus restrictions but were able to give their views on the latest shows on TV once again.
