Gogglebox Jenny and Lee respond after BBC star 'confirms' they've quit Channel 4 show

Gogglebox stars Jenny Newby and Lee Riley have responded to claims they’ve quit the hit show.

The hilarious duo took to Twitter to address the news after BBC radio host Jo Wiley announced that they were leaving the Channel 4 series.

Jenny and Lee rushed to clarify the situation after a fan tweeted their disappointment at their exit from Gogglebox.

They wrote: “Firstly, Chris Martin of @coldplay has just said on @jowhiley on @BBCRadio2 in concert that you guys are his fave on #Gogglebox.

“However, Jo then said you guys were leaving?? What the??!”

The stunned duo – who hail from Hull – were very quick to rebuff the claims admitting that Jo was obviously confused for some reason.

Jenny and Lee – who have been Gogglebox fan favourites since 2014 – replied, via their joint Twitter account: “Well Jo is totally wrong.”

A confused and mortified Jo then swiftly made her way into the conversation as she reached out to the pair with an apology.

She wrote: “I am SOOOO Sorry!!! I completely thought I’d read you were leaving, I’m sure I did! Maybe I dreamt it.”

She then backed up Chris Martin’s opinion and showed Jenny and Lee some extra love.

She continued: “I’m really happy to hear that though. Love you two, just like Chris.”

Lee, 51, and Jenny, 65, have been friends for many years after they met at the Yorkshire based pub she was landlady of.

Lee – who spends his time in Cyprus when he isn’t filming for the show – was a regular at the venue.

Jenny roped him into starring alongside her on the show when she met a Channel 4 researcher who scouted her for the series at Beverly Ladies Day.

He previously admitted that at first he was reluctant to take part but his long-running best friend convinced him to be by her side.

He said: “To be honest and I didn’t want to do it. I’d say it took her about an hour and a half to talk me into it – about as long as it took me to get me out of bed.”
