Harry Potter sequels 'have potential' says WarnerMedia 10 years after last film

WarnerMedia has hinted that there could be a future to the Harry Potter series, a decade since the last film was released to cinemas worldwide.

The best-selling novels by JK Rowling instantly became a hit across the globe and resulted in the series being transformed into eight films between 2001 and 2011.

It’s believed the hugely successful franchise has bagged more than an eyewatering £720 million for the author, a far cry from the days she sat in cafes writing the books while living on government benefits.

But now, it appears she could be putting pen to paper or at least having an involvement in a potential revival.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference, Jason Kilar, CEO of WarnerMedia said: “There’s this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises.

“And we’re incredibly thankful to be able to partner with J.K. Rowling and so I would argue there’s a lot of fun and potential there as well.”

Jason, 49, didn’t go on to elaborate on his bombshell statement but it has previously been reported that there is a Harry Potter live-action television series in development with HBO Max.

However, since it was announced, there has been no official comment or leaks as to who may be starring in the upcoming production.

It’s claimed that it is not yet known what the show will focus on or at what point in the Harry Potter timeframe it will be set in.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that bosses at HBO Max have “engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television”.

It’s said that several ideas have been spoken about during early-stage meetings with bosses at the production company.

Elsewhere, the outlet claims that Warner Brothers could be in the process of transforming Harry Potter and The Cursed Child theatre show into a new secretly retired from her acting career.

Last week, Emma Watson sent the world into overdrive when speculation became rife suggesting she had secretly retired from her acting career after finding fame as Hermoine Grainger in the hit films.

However, her acting agent Jason Weinberg at United Entertainment has since said: “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t.”

Daily Star has approached J.K Rowling for comment.
