Helen Mirren risks mishap as bubbles slip away while filming nude in bathtub

Helen Mirren proved the queen of multitasking this week when she carried out a major interview while simultaneously enjoying a soak in the tub.

The national treasure, 75, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote the new Fast and the Furious film, which hits cinemas later this month.

Curbing convention, Helen decided to attend the video call from her bathtub, using the suds to cover her modesty.

Pictured from the shoulders up, the acclaimed actress could be seen reclining under the bubbles, her hair scraped back from her face.

The unusual setting was a hit with US talk show host Jimmy, who exclaimed: “Oh my God. you are the absolute… you are the greatest. Oh my God, I love you.”

At one point in the interview, Helen worried her bubbles might start slipping away, encouraging Jimmy to speed up the chat.

“I’m running out of bubbles though, that’s the problem,” she quipped. “You’re chatting away and my bubbles are going down.’

Helen explained why she had settled on hosting the interview from the tub, revealing she likes to chat with her husband while soaking.

“I’m in my favourite place in the world,” she began.

“That’s what’s so brilliant about Zoom. I was thinking, you know: ‘Why not be in the place you love to sit and chat to people?’

“I love to chat to my husband while sitting in the bath, so why not do it to the whole of America?”

Jimmy was in firm agreement, replying: “That’s very smart. That’s why you’re the best.”

The conversation then turned to Fast and the Furious 9, with Helen joining the legendary franchise as criminal mastermind Magdalene ‘Queenie’ Shaw.

Starring alongside Vin Diesel and John Cena, Helen named her character, Queenie, after one of her aunts.

Recalling her aunt’s family, Helen told Jimmy: “It was a very old London family and I had an Auntie Queenie. It’s a proper east end name Queenie so I thought that would be a good name for her to have.”

Fans of the Fast and Furious franchise don’t have long to wait – F9 appears in cinemas from June 24.
