Naughty Boy ‘s mum, Zahida, has dementia and she is struggling to watch her son on I’m A Celebrity, according to family.
The musician has been having a tough time in the castle and has spoken out to campmates about how he has been struggling.
His niece, Aisha, told The Sun that they have refrained from showing Naughty Boy’s mum clips of him getting emotional for fear they would be too distressing for her to watch.
She said: “Watching it she will get confused, especially if she saw him doing the trial, she would have been very, very distressed. Most nights, she will cheer ‘that is my son’ and she will talk to the TV, bless her.”
Aisha also said that Naughty Boy’s mum finds it confusing for him not to be around: “During the day, she is always like ‘where is he?’, ‘is her coming home?’ and we have to keep reminding her that ‘no, he is on the show and she will see him on TV’.”
The music producer and artist has been looking after his mum for the past five years. His family are now concerned for his mental health inside of the castle.
On Tuesday nights episode, Naughty Boy was very upset and opened up about his dislike of The Clink, the other campmates and even wanted to leave the camp.
He admitted: “Knowing that the main camp probably knew what they were putting me through, knowing that I did the challenge earlier, I don’t know if I could ever join that group.”
“I’ve tried my best both times today, and I just can’t go from here into that main camp.”
Many fans were annoyed at Naughty Boy’s reaction, but his family, and many fans, came to his defence.
On fan wrote: “I’ve got to be honest, I’m not comfortable with the reaction to Naughty Boy on here.
“To me, it appears like he has some deep rooted issues with himself and may not be mentally prepared to deal with the show and the failure #ImACeleb.”
Naughty Boy’s family shared the post adding: “This! If only everyone knew what he’s battling on the outside world…
“This is the first time he has left her to do something life-changing! He is just overwhelmed and he will be fine.”
I’m A Celebrity airs everyday at 9pm on ITV and the ITVHub.
