Naga Munchetty says goodbye to BBC Breakfast co-star after 'last shift' shoe blunder

Naga Munchetty has bid farewell to one of her BBC Breakfast co-stars on their final day in the news studio.

Naga sent a sweet message to her BBC colleague, Katherine Downes, who has presented BBC Sport on the morning news show.

However, as emotional as Katherine’s final shift at the BBC might have been, it didn’t come without its drama.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday (November 25), Katherine revealed it was her final day on the show.

The sports presenter shared a series of snaps from the studio – including one of her sitting on the famous red sofa with Sally Nugent and Jon Kay.

Katherine wrote: “My last shift with the sports news on @BBCBreakfast and, true to form, I’ve forgotten my shoes.

“Borrowed some from @TVNaga01 ‘s cupboard…she has much daintier feet than me.”

She added: “An (un)fitting finale coming up over the next 3 hours.”

Naga was on hand to reassure Katherine though, because she tweeted back: “You wear them fabulously!”

Katherine has worked at the BBC for 14 years, but she recently announced that it was time for her to take a new path.

At the start of November, she wrote: “It’s given me the best of times and the best of friends.

“I hope they’ll have me back every now and then, but if you’re looking for a commentator/presenter/reporter, I’ll be free from the end of November.”

Naga had written back: “Always welcome my friend xx.”

Katherine’s supporters were sad to hear that she’s leaving the BBC, but they still saw the funny side of her shoe gaffe.

One fan wrote: “Sorry to see you go. Your commentaries are excellent, so the future’s bright. Safe travels, Katherine.”

A second said: “Good luck on getting your last shift off on the right (and left) foot.”

A third commented: “So sad to hear that you are leaving the BBC.

“You are a brilliant sports presenter and very knowledgeable. Maybe you can keep the heels as a Shoevenier….”
